for the 16v and cheap enough (not as cheap as replacement filter from motofactors though)

    8v http://www.knfilters.com/search/product3.aspx?Prod=E-2863

BKR5EIX (6341) 8v NGK upgraded spark plugs for the 8v

and the upgrades for the 16v
    DCPR8EIX (6546) 16v NGK

a decent oil like valvoline maxlife 100.000miles+oil (4.5l only cans). a new oil filter, fuel filter, good examination of engine for any air leaks at inlest manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets, split pipes etc.

try not to use the city button too often, it uses more electricity to alter the stearing box's ratio.

    EDIT.
use of universal filter can have adverse affects higher consuption compared to the branded tested ones.
panel filters are better direct replace, emt so you can use the cold air feed pipes.

twin spark plugs would not be much good in a punto.

could change the coil pack and leads if you believe you need to
dont forget this is based on your year model phase 2 (city button gives away) if you have another the year would help

before spending all this money on parts etc try actually spending your money on fuelling the thing. the only weak point on the car seems to be your ability to fuel it. please dont spend any money on a 90k mile fiat punto. This was such a stupid topic I thought it was someone taking the !!!! at first.
  • dont think it is for us to force an opnion of not spending money on his car if he wishes, there info in here that should aid him in finding the source to the high consumption.

i agree his fuelling methods can contribute to this but also think theres an underlying problem there, could be something as easy as a gasket leak on the inlet manifold or a split pipe.

changing the air filter to a washable direct replacement that could outlive the car would save him a few quid at every service and over time, as well as slightly increase his MPG figure. also changing the plugs to the replacement upgrades that cost just as much as the normal plug seems to suggest that this could save him money in the long run also.

fuel and service is part of owning a car.
  • Forget the boy racer air filter kit, that will make little or no difference, all it will do is give the car a little bit more of throaty induction sound, which quite frankly, is very naff on a non performance car.

agree the universal filter kit wont do nothing other than make a noise and reduce MPG.

K and N panel filter doesnt offer that induction noise, its a direct replacement filter thats designed to allow a little more air than other replacement one allowing for a better throttle response wich inturn can give MPG returns, better throttle response should mean you use the throttle a little less than you would in normal circs and thus improve MPG (thats the theory and to be honest what ive seen).
  • fgs.,

Fill it back up with fuel and take it for a service.

A far more sensible use of your money.

Seriously? Is this a wind up? Why do all the links not work?

Course it is a wind up, try reading some of the OP's contradictory threads about money and credit six months ago.
