How about a weekend trip to London take in the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park. A trip to Hamleys where each kid could maybe have an amount to spend on a toy.

You could go to Traflagar Square & see the Christmas Tree & see the lights at Harrods (maybe see the Grotto there)

My Grandaparents use to take us into London a couple of weekends before Christmas every year growing up and we loved it.

I like both these ideas. Do you think its possible for a couple of nights at Disneyland Paris for a family of 4 to come in at under £1k including travel? It would feel more "once in a lifetime" than legoland, but presumably will be more expensive. Having said that, does anyone know whether legoland put anything special on for Xmas? They have been to legoland before though for a day trip with the grandparents.
  • Just another suggestion for your list (although if it was me I'd love to go to Disneyland Paris at Xmas!) - there is a Lapland UK which is being held in Swinley Forest in Bracknell this year.

I don't think much has been advertised yet as they've only just started recruiting round here which is why I know about it, it runs from the end of November until Xmas Eve and having read previous reviews on where it used to be in Kent it sounds fab for a family day out, the whole day is acted out as if they've gone to lapland with toy making, elves and obviously a visit to santas grotto.

What city are you in Op?
I wouldn't even leave the country, there's loads of stuff you can do here that's brilliant without losing precious time in airports?

I'd take them somewhere like Alton Towers though I should imagine all the theme parks have special Christmas parties going on

Then I'd buy them some amazing presents for when they got back home, and a fabulous feast.
You'd still then have a bit leftover to start a new Easter fund.

I think they've outgrown Peppa Pig tbh.
    That's a shame. It's a great place. And a great program!
In fact my eldest, who will 8 a couple of days after Christmas is beginning to question Santas in grottos. She still believes there is a Santa (of course there is!) but was starting to ask a few difficult questions last year about why there were so many Santas, and how come they looked different, which one (if any) was the real Santa...
Yes, ours (especially our eldest two, anyway) know that these guys aren't real. But I would argue that the ones in "proper" grottos would report back to Father Christmas.
If I was in a playful mood, I'd say something like "Father Christmas sends helpers to these sorts of grottos all over the country - all over the world, in fact. But you never know - and they never will tell you - which one the real Father Christmas goes to..."

What about a special lunch and good tickets to panto? Or is that a Scottish thing?

ETA you won't spend £1,000 on that obviously but I wouldn't spend all that money now, always good to have a cushion.

That's a lovely idea, not just a Scottish thing :)

I'd go with the trip to London, too. As suggested, the Hyde Park Winter wonderland, Hamleys, Santa at Harrods, meals out, a musical or pantomime.

    We stay here http://www.parkplaza.com/london-hotel-gb-se1-7ut/gbwestmi/home

I can't recommend it more for families. It's got a pool, is very near the Southbank, so lots of restaurants and the London Eye and the family studios are big enough that you have plenty of space. We tend to stay a couple of nights just before christmas and it's always really special.
