if the chocs are vegeterian it would say suitable for vegeterians in the list and they even say if the chocs are alcohol free. All the boxes in store have a list on the back. The staff have told me if it doesn't say suitable for vegeterians then it's not even if it's just the one choc that has animal product in it

I'd be fine as a veggie with the list above but didn't think about gelatine I did try to look for an ingredient list for the products, but couldn't find them

Exactly what I was thinking, they really should have mentioned that! I've just sent them a request to cancel my order if this is the case? I placed an order yesterday for over £50 worth of chocolate for Christmas presents ... no good if the sell by date on the Christmas themed boxes runs out next month?! :mad:

phew - just gone back and checked my order - all of the chocs are suitable for veggies, it's just the obvious culprits like jellies that aren't suitable.


Am so glad they're ok - was not looking forward to giving them all away!

Just been looking around the website and those boxes are in the 'New In' section so me being an optimist surely they will be dated until next year?

ha ha, I'm with the optimist...delivery dispatched so fingers crossed! If they're not dated into 2013 I'll be visiting a store and asking to exchange for boxes with better dates on as they're for xmas gifts....I don't want to eat 3 boxes of them when I'm not even that fussed on them myself!!

I had a product out of date from hon Lewis and they gave me a full refund and let me keep the product! Score!

is there a general rule of thumb to work out if an expiration date is acceptable ? Like many others on this thread, I'm buying for Xmas, so it would be good to know if kicking up a fuss was reasonable ?

In general, I'd say that if they're coming with best before at the end of October then you can't argue. You've got plenty of time to eat them.

If they're marketed as Christmas products you could try objecting because the best before is up before Christmas. But I remember the last few years when the supermarkets have started getting Christmas stuff in months beforehand, lots of it goes out of date beforehand.

Also remember that 'best before' means just that. These will be fine for months afterwards. They don't become poisonous the next day. I eat stuff for ages after the best before date (so long as it looks OK), but I can understand you not wanting to give presents that look out of date.
