  • this is more suited to DT rather than this bourd.

but as it is here ill give my opnion on your hypothetical question.

i would rather someone smash the rear of my car up than be at fault for not taking evasive action to the cut up and plant my car into the one infront.

I should probably post my favourite story about situations like this here now, just for the amusement it provides.

I'm in L1 of a dual carriageway doing 30 as L2 is basically stop start. The reason it's like this is because the road ends in a roundabout up ahead and L1 has a lane that lets it bypass the roundabout and go down the sliproad onto the main DC below.

What tends to happen is that people in L2 get wound up eventually, pull into L1, turn left then do a U turn at the next roundabout on the main DC, so I'm not really willing to go much faster even though it is a 70 limit.

A mirror check and I notice I have picked up some idiot tailgating me. No idea what make the car is because I can't see the badge on his bonnet, I can only just see his wiper blades that's how close he is.

Before I can even begin to start slowing down, looking forward again, L1 has moved forward a few feet and someone half a car length in front of me has taken this opportunity to pull out without looking.

I swerve into the hard shoulder and accelerate. It's one of those hard shoulders that isn't actually wide enough for a car, but I manage to make it around the guy who pulled out without a collision.

My tailgater drove into the back of him!

i had simular on A470 just before abercynon roundabout.

before the lights (and even with them) there is usually heavy traffic from the slip road to abercynon to the roundabout, i'm in L1 with a van up my backside im doing approx 50 MPH knowing the traffic ahead is a stand still so im decreasing speed because numpty behind me and the impending need to stop anyway, we get to services with the restraunt in and a merc decides he going to hop in L1 from stand still traffic in L2 i swerve into the services the van ploughs into the merc headlong.
