mysterious object in hall !

I came home today and nearly stepped on something that I have absolutely no idea what it was :o

We have 2 cats - one a 2yo outside hunter girl, and the other an 11 week old indoor (so far) kitten. I'm wondering if this thing is possibly cat-related?

Difficult to describe: large walnut sized, sort of elongated/squashed. Very smooth on the outside, with almost a membrane type of thing covering it. Fibrous material inside it. Almost like a mini haggis really

Has anyone any ideas what this could be?

    Could it be a hairball?

Could your older cat have brought an owl pellet home maybe?

probably not a hairball, couldn't see any hair in it for a start ! The owl pellet may be, but when I google for pictures, the outside is very smooth, almost shiny - it really does look like a tiny haggis !

I wish i'd taken a photo of it now - I just threw it in the bin, but Mr G fished it out & squished it to see the inside _pale_

My hubby has just informed me that his cats always left this behind when eating something. So it's some sort of entrail from a rat or similar. Liver maybe?

A part they didn't like the taste of anyway

oo, now that's intriguing. rather than liver though, perhaps my initial feeling about haggis was right & its a stomach?!

she brought in a mouse yesterday, so perhaps she's worked her way up onto not so small furries?!

  • It's common for cats to spit out the liver.

Ooh yes, it would look like that. And it would be full of whatever said little critter had been eating, hence the fibrousness.

yup, but what worries me is what size of a animal would you have to be to have a stomach the size of a elongated walnut?! Even a large rat would be too small I think?
