Am I missing something obvious

Just a quick question really? I've been a loyal customer for nearly 12 years with O2 and looking to upgrade my phone. I've got to pay £299 for the phone I'm after (bit of a gadget freak to be honest) and subscribe to a 24 month contract.

So why does it seem cheaper for me to end my contract with O2 and move to Vodafone and have the phone for £37 a month (24 month contract) and a one off fee of £29?

What am I missing?

Thanks

Well considering you've given no information on the phone or tariff, nobody knows :rotfl:
  • Cheapest O2 contract 'On & On' £26 a month for 24 months with unlimited texts and minutes and 1GB data usage a month.

Pay today price: £299 (two hundred and ninety nine)
    Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB.

Cheapest Vodafone contract 'Red Plan' £29 a month for 24 months with unlimited texts and minutes and 1GB data usage a month.

Pay today price: £29 (twenty nine)
    Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB.

You can also get £121.20 cashback if you go to the Vodaphone site via Topcashback (or £151.50 if you pay in excess of £36 per month).

Just taking O2's standard upgrade is the most expensive way of doing it.

What you are missing is this: There are no discounts for loyalty on contracts. Each time time you upgrade a handset you benefit from the discount for your agreement to stay another X months. You will always get a better deal as a new customer so take advantage of it.

    From what I see :

    O2 is (26x24) + 299 = £923
    Vodafone is (37x24) + 29 = £917

    Not a huge difference?
    Dave.
  • 299 is way too much just leave and start again u can get a free galaxy s3 on most contracts now

Bit OT but I found the same with car insurance - loyalty is worth zip - i've never had a renewal quote that i cant beat somewhere else - sometimes even get a cheaper quote (as a starter) from the same company that quoted the over-priced renewal - go figure
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

Thats assuming a customer has a easily disposable £299 upfront though !
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Unlike in my day (oh yes I'm that old) loyalty not only no longer pays it definitely costs you lots of money. My insurances etc get switched every year without fail. 'Loyal' customers these days are frankly fleeced to fund new customer acquisition.
