Kwik Fit, which I would never use quoted circa £350.
I looked at the parts online and I can see some discs going for about £10 while others are £50
My question is why this big difference?
I remember the KF guy saying something about one having ABS sensor and wheel bearing hub etc.
Do I need the expensive ones or will the cheap ones suffice?
MTIA
the cheap ones are pattern parts. pattern parts vairy in quality eg a front wing will not be a perfect fit, for brakes it will be quality of the metal and the casting process used, they might wear or warp faster the oem but they still comply with any regulations just like ditch finder tyres.
I would always go for oem parts had nothing but trouble with pattern parts0 -
That is just scaremongering, probably from someone in the trade involved in protectionism.
Please give a factual source for this outrageous statement.
In fact why not point us specifically to what you consider to be "fake" so we can judge for ourselves.
you really should be in the trade then you would be aware not to buy safety items from unknown sources
for the record the link im posting these parts had fooled a very large factor which i have been asked not to divulge but if they got fooled as they did what chance has jo soup head got on an internet site

Rather unlikely that the larger sellers whose addresses trace back to factors and who are selling stuff like Comline at lowish prices would be selling fakes.
There do tend to be some sellers with low ratings, non-business sellers selling Mintex at prices not much higher than Comline which may or may not be fake.
Cheaper stuff like Comline, Allied Nippon etc isn't the best quality but I've used them before and they're fine.
oe careful, yes, but tarring every seller on eBay with the same brush is a bit rich.0 -

Ah, the good old Asian fake stuff.
My absolute favourite is the "genuine" Hella/Philips/Bosch/Siemens headlight HID conversion kit available from Ebay. You can actually go to the Chinese wholesaler and order these "genuine" kits direct - they even give you 21 packaging options. Check this out."Retail is for suckers"

No i dont sell car parts. But i have worked on enough and bought enough to know when something is too cheap to be genuine.
You do your own work. But 20 sets of brand name disc's and pads from ebay sellers and then send them to the genuine company and see how many are fake.
If you dont find ANY fake ones i will eat them, Hows that for you.
Cant think which TV show did a piece on this. They bought some pads off ebay in genuine VW boxes. But the part numbers were for waterpumps.
Cars took longer to stop than with the genuine brakes.
Now for the advert: Buy forgotmyname's disc's and pads. If they dont match the
quality of any other named brand that you forgot the name of, You get no money back.
With an added bonus of not stopping when you brake. Braking only wastes fuel anyway.
Please form an orderly queue to the left. Unless you already have my discs and pads
fitted in which case im the shop on the left with all the crashed cars outside.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I worked in the trade for a bit and we used euro car parts for some parts and also genuine parts from TPS (trade parts specialist) for VW, Seats, Audis and Skodas because we were a VAG specialist.
TPS is owned by Volkswagen UK and only supplies genuine VW parts for VAG cars only. Euro supply parts for every car from a number of different aftermarket manufacturers.
A lot of stuff is of worse quality from the factors - I remember water pumps especially being night and day between genuine and aftermarket. One all rough from being sand casted and the other machined to a smooth finish.
Brakes on the other hand were just as good from eurocarparts as genuine ones. Look for Pagid. You honestly couldnt tell the difference between them and genuine parts. I have bought discs from ebay before and they rot from inside (the ventilated part outwards) and generally are wrecked after a few months. But the pagid ones are coated, they also come greased from the factory so as not to corrode until you wipe the grease off when you fit them. On my Golf I usually only fit genuine parts but for the brakes I would honestly fit Pagid. Theyre much cheaper, probably made by the same people anyway, and look exactly the same quality.
The reason kiwkfit charge you £350 is because they can. They will still get the Pagid or other make parts from euro or another factor (at trade discount) but charge huge mark ups and add on labour. This is fair enough its how the motor trade works - they are not a charity. They will also use their tools and copper grease which isnt free.
As a bonus if you buy from the eurocarparts shop and the part is wrong - for example if the sensor is wrong - you can swap with the right part. There will be at least one guy behind the counter that knows what he is talking about in my experience. The sensor will be a simple swap as long as you route it correctly in the wheel arch so this is nothing to worry about.0 -

It sometimes helps to find out who makes the original components for a car manufacturer, and then use their service parts."Retail is for suckers"
