Most likely the job never existed.
The agencies near me always have 'jobs' listed which are ''very near the the train station and bus routes, good pay, no experience necessary'' etc. Perfect! and everytime, the job ''has been filled'', despite remaining on various job sites indefinitely.

I hate agencies. They also lie so much about what the job entails, just so you'll take it and they can then take a nice cut of your wages. I told the agency that I didn't want a job where i'd be on the phones. They said 'fine' and sent me for a job as a 'data entry clerk', although when I started, the job was actually cold calling people in a sales office! I worked for 10 minutes and walked out and gave the agency a piece of my mind.

So yes, like you said, they just want to get you on their books and thus lie.

They are horrible, but unfortuately more and more jobs go through agencies nowaways. Shame

yes so still don't know why you never asked if it was with them or not? What did the advert say?

I'd post it but it seems to be removed. They have another advert up (below) and yes I should of paid more attention, But then data entry position within a recruitment agency would be unheard off.

Did you not take a copy of the advert off the net? How do you know what you have applied for?

    Would be or wouldn't be?

Still there is nothing in this advert or any in fact on their site as I have just look that lead me to believe that any are with them.

No you haven't been had as they the actual company can advertise with 100 agencies if they wanted to or on their own website or local paper and then just tell the agencies the job has gone when they fill it.

Oh quit drilling him/her already. Try to have some empathy for christ sake.

Ok so he/she was naive by not asking the right questions, and no he/she hasn't been had as such but surely even you can see the disingenuous tactics recruitment agencies use to harvest desperate jobseekers?

I absolutely resent most recruitment consultants. I say 'most' because there are some decent agencies out there, you just have to look hard enough.

Honestly, OP, really sympathise with you and other job hunters out there. It's a minefield.

Chin up. Keep going. Ask questions next time. :)
  • I have little empathy as Falko already has a job and moans about it on here all the time so get over it and learn to ask the right questions.

I think this was an exercise to get people on their books and that the job never existed, what do you think?
I see this accusation on here time and again.

Each time I wonder why an agency with no jobs to offer would need to "get people on their books".

    What's the bl00dy point?

I hope you never end up in a job you totally despise, to the point where its the first thing on your mind when you wake each and every morning and its the last thing you think off before you go to bed (weekends included) it becomes an obsession, or a job where you have stomach problems and diarrhoea every morning on the way there, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel which is why I was !!!!ed off with this agency, I thought maybe I might have a chance of escape but no. I'd gladly give anything to be back on the dole again and while that wasn't a nice experience either it was a darn site better than this.

I had a similar thing with an agency a few months back I was due to start a job on the monday only to get a call on the friday afternoon saying the company had filled it internally. I hate agencies with a passion their reps fill you full of rubbish and are only interested in their commission.
