So I saw this job I metioned for data clerk on the jobcentre website; the name of employer and address was a training / recruitment agency so I assumed the job was with them so applied. Got a call yesterday asking a few details and could I start immediately, I said yes and she said she would get back to me before the end of the week. First thing this morn I get an email, "this position has been filled by the company internally" so the job obviously wasn't with them and would this company not of thought of this before they advertised? I think this was an exercise to get people on their books and that the job never existed, what do you think?

Possibly, but you have lost nothing. Just the way it goes.

Not lost but just another kick in the teeth, It seems the only jobs going around here apart from grad jobs are jobs that don't exist, I've had 2 run in's with agencies, this and the one that got me my current job that again didn't exist.
  • You said it was a telephone interview?!!

Yes, and she did not mention at any point that the job wasn't with them and I never thought to ask as I trusted the job centre, Now I know why the emphasis was on "Immediate Start"

But surely you asked questions about the job and where it was based and if it was with them or you knew it was an agency that advertised or not? No?

Under job details and address was this agencies address, Maybe I am a bit slow on the uptake, I just assumed it was with them, I asked what I'd be doing and all the rest but at no point did she say or indicate it wasn't with them.

Why would you assume a job advertised by an agency was actaully at the agency unless it said 'working for us'?

Sorry but you would ask all of these things if you really had a telephone interview like you said.
  • I fudging hate Temp Agencies.

As a student they are a good source of quick money in exchange for doing mind numbing boring data entry jobs.

Why because they are the main agency over here in N.Ireland and i'd never seen them advertise any job on the Jobcentre website before and I check daily.

yes so still don't know why you never asked if it was with them or not? What did the advert say?
