Renault Clio - Spare Key Broken

Can anyone help please?
I have an "S" Reg Renault Clio (1998 - first of the new rounded back window shape). The key is not an electronic one - it manually opens the doors.
I don't know how I've managed it, but the metal part of the spare key has fallen out of the black chunky fob and I've lost it. I still have the black fob part (which I believe has the immobiliser code in).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I replace the metal part of the key? Do keycutting places do car keys? I'm sure Renault could supply me with a new spare but I'm also sure that would cost a huge amount of money!
Thanks.

no spare?/orignal?, no clone can be done without the BLADED part of the key.
your only option in this case is to visit a scrap yard and get yourself a lock and ignition barrel set boot, driver, passenger, ignition barrel locks and the keys, then get a spare done of the set you bought and screw it back into the fob youve already got.
if you have a key then a key can be cut at a local key cutters and they can reintall it back into the fob with a tiny grub screw.0 -
Thanks. I do have the original key, it's just the metal part of the spare key that I've lost. I didn't know if normal key-cutters could do car keys. I will bring the key and empty key fob to work with me tomorrow and see if someone can do it.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

most key cutters have the blank blades. just take original car key with you and fob without the blade and ask for a clone.0 -
Assuming the spare fob you still have has the immobilser chip inside?, also assuming the Clio needs a chipped key, then a simple clone by a normal locksmith will do the trick with the chipped fob affixed securely.0

I'm presuming it's still in there. The fob hasn't come apart at all, just the metal bit has fallen out. I'll see what the key cutting place say tomorrow - I didn't think it would be that easy!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

you fob look like this
if so heres how it worksnote the grub screw top centre this holds the bladed part of the key and securely closes the fob around the blade, note in pick one that that grub screw is visible from the rear of the key and prone to becoming loose (if it has been unscrewed to fit a battery, most places will fit this grub screw in with a dab of lockthread (glue) after having the battery or new blade fitted to stop the screw undoing.
inside the fob (wich is not pictured) will be you transponder chip and battery.
it is purely a case of cloning the blade part of the keyfob and screwing it back together.0 -
You are so helpful, thank you. My key must be older than these ones though. There are no visible screws whatsoever. The black fob is totally smooth except for a ridge running all the way round the outside edge, which I presume could be prized apart?DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Someone suggested last week that this place is much cheaper than the main dealerships, i think it says somewhere there if you've lost your key just put in your car details.
Check it out.

Thanks. I have been to the key cutting place this morning and discovered that the black fob is a totally sealed unit. I can't open it or prize it in half. The chap has made me a duplicate key with just a regular flat fob, which I know will at least open the car doors, but I'm wondering how close the immobiliser unit in the spare fob needs to be to the key for the car to start? Probably a very blonde question (sorry!) but if I had the proper fob in the car, less than 1 foot away from the ignition, would that be close enough for the signal to still work? Or, if I literally taped the fob to the replacement key?! This replacement key only cost me £8 so I thought it was worth a try
If it doesn't work I'll contact the place you've suggested SailorSam (didn't see your post before getting this key).DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244
