It would probably we worth reading the four-page discussion about SD memory cards (mostly about their classes, not the manufacturers) in the current issue of PC Pro magazine...

If you buy from Play.com or Amazon it may be best to ensure that you buy from Play.com or Amazon themselves, rather than from one of their resellers. Some resellers, not all, have supplied fake cards in the past. I know, I bought two...

Additionally, 7dayshop are often cheaper, and MyMemory cheaper still.

  • Have already asked this but might have more luck here.
Have just seem a MC called DEOLUX. Specifications seem good. Anybody know of this one. Also 7day shop, are their own makes reliable.
  • Just bought Sandisk Ultra 16gb SDHC card from MyMemory on Amazon for £7.70 and free delivery. Got it for my new digital camera and it works a treat. Arrived in two days too!

Might be worth putting excluding delivery next to the prices or at least highlighting delivery charges may apply, as with ebuyer you have to pay delivery ranging from £2.98 to £8.97 depending on option, but guide makes out that cost includes delivery (unless i'm reading the delivered word after price wrong).
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • MICRO SD CARDS.
Best to go with Sandisk, they are the leaders.
Best deals are to be had on ebay, you get better protection if things go wrong.
There are sellers who have sold 1000`s of them with 100% feedback score.
As a rough guide, aim to pay 50p per GB

DON`T be tempted to buy cheap ones from the far east, and beware of foreign sellers masquarading as UK sellers, the clue is in the postage/packing/item location details. There are a couple of sellers based in the channel islands who have sold hundreds of thousands of them.

As a point of interest, the advertised GB is not the usable GB, eg a 32GB card will have free space of 29.4GB, the reason for this is a bit complicated and is not really for this discussion board.

Hope this helps you in your buying descision

I see from the first page it includes memory sticks.

Just bought a 16GB Sandisk cruzer facet for £7, they were £10.
  • What I do when buying flash storage is as follows ('memory' means something else, if we're going to please the [STRIKE]pedants[/STRIKE] people who find life more convenient and easy-to-understand, when standard engineering terms are used rather than confusing and unhelpful marketing ones):

    1) Make sure my device is compatible (check the upper size it can handle, e.g. with MicroSD or SD in general, there's a 32GB limit for many devices).

    2) See what flash storage has a fast speed for a good price, and check reviews. Speed is always worth having if at a reasonable price and reliability.
I've never seen a really fast USB2.0 drive in action, although I assume they exist. USB 3.0 ones are likely to be faster than normal USB2.0 ones - even when used in USB2.0 machines.

    3) Check I'm not buying from a seller of fakes. Many fakes abound where the card/usb stick will look genuine, in packaging and everything, but be from a fake factory. The reliability is awful, the speeds slow and the capacity fake (in order to save money) or any combination of these flaws. Avoid at all costs.

    4) When it arrives, check again that it's not a fake, then install it physically, scan it for viruses (you never know), then test it with the excellent, simple, H2testW software.

    5) Use it, knowing my data is relatively-safe. ;)
