Been stupid and posted eBay item without receiving payment..

Hi,

I've made a bit of a boo boo and posted an eBay item today to a buyer who hasn't paid yet. I sold a number of items a few days ago and most have been paid for bar this one.

Is there anything I can do?

I'm highly annoyed with myself!

Thanks

  • All you can do is keep your fingers crossed they are honest and pay.

I ordered a few things from ebay yesterday and realised this morning I hadn't paid for one of them. Could just be an oversight on the buyers part.
  • I would let the buyer know the situation. Very few people in my experience would bid on an item and not pay. I still have faith after thousands of sales that the majority of buyers are honest and not out to scam you.
My guess is you will be fine and the item will be paid for.
  • I agree with Freddy. Of course, there is no guarantee, but I think you would be quite unlucky to by chance, send the very item not paid for to one of the small minority of dishonest eBay users.

Earlier this year one payment I made didn't go through and I had to log on to Paypal to see whether or not it had actually been processed. It hadn't, so I tried again.

I always make sure I check that the blue pound sign is lit before I leave My eBay but mistakes do happen.

If there is no response you might get away with an NPB dispute but that is absolute last resort.

  • It wasn't baby bedding by any chance??
  • if you sent the item today then quickly send them a payment reminder. most buyers pay straight away when they see the reminder....so if you're lucky they may pay tonight. if you don;t have payment by tomorrow morning then contact them and tell them whats happened. Someone sent me something...i think it was only 99p and i hadn't paid and i paid them as soon as i received the item. i think most buyers would be honest enough to pay up
  • Hi, I posted a 99p item that had not been paid as I was going away for a few days and didn't want to risk bad feedback. Needless to say, the buyer never paid although I sent a few invoices and messages. I even sent them a Christmas card a few months later with the invoice in and they still never paid!
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

The one time when it happened to me was four years ago when I sent on the strength of a £10+ cheque in hand - the cheque bounced. To wait for the cheque to clear seemed unreasonable so I sent out the item then banked the cheque as soon as I could get round to it.

It was just before the 2-4-6 rule came in too :(.

It was the last cheque I took - I still take them in principle but would definitely rather have Paypal if possible.

Obviously I emailed the buyer but they never replied. I'd always repay but I'm not always so confident in this situation.

  • Update: The buyer paid 1 week later. Hooray for honest people!
  • I think that on the whole, most people you deal with on ebay are honest. It's only reading forums like this one that tends to warp people's views. Yes, there are dishonest people around, but thankfully they really are in the minority.
