Martin's Videos - What about us?

I'm not deaf but am aware of some of the surrounding issues due to my ex's work and am good at research.
http://www.rnid.org.uk/information_resources/factsheets/your_rights/factsheets_leaflets/dda_guide_service_providers.htm#which_sp_covered
suggests that service providers (whether they charge or not) should make 'reasonable adjustments' if the service would otherwise be 'impossible or unreasonably difficult for the deaf person to use'.
It suggests that subtitling video clips on a website would count as a 'reasonable adjustment'.
So, I would say that if there is important information in the videos that is not available elsewhere on the site they ought to be subtitled.

While in principle I agree with subtitling, I would be surprised if the information in the videos is not available elsewhere on the site, albeit presented in a different way.
The thing is, how do I know if it's available elsewhere if I didn't understand what the people in the video are saying at the first place?
Beside I'd trust this site more than anywhere else, which is why I come here and not elsewhere. But the information on the video is not being passed to us, so we are missing out a lot.
Sue, I would be grateful if you could point this thread to Martin?
Thank you.- Tony Sutton0 -

It's the service provider's job to check.Beside I'd trust this site more than anywhere else, which is why I come here and not elsewhere. But the information on the video is not being passed to us, so we are missing out a lot.
We haven't established that you're missing anything yet
Perhaps one of the Deaf organisations ought to be carrying out spot checks on websites to see if they are complying? Perhaps they could do the subtitles if Martin doesn't feel it's necessary?0 -

But then I'm a words not a pictures person, so I'd always go for something in writing rather than someone talking to me. Easier to go back and check I've understood it right.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
(I still don't know what these videos are!)
These video appears in newsletter. Plus on the website too.

So I guess I'd find sub-titles useful too! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
By "Us", I am referring to Deaf people like me.
Where is the subtitles version of the videos?
It's really not fair that we are unable to understand what the videos are saying.
There are freeware tools out there that you can use to add subtitles.
So I am wondering what's the excuse of not adding subtitles to the videos?
I hope you will consider adding it soon...So...
Almost 2 years since my first post of this thread.
Still no subtitles. ...
I do agree that it would be beneficial to have subtitles for the hard of hearing/deaf. But this is a private site not a government site, if they choose not to, then that is their perogative. Hopefully this is still being looked into.
Also, you joined the site stating "It's not fair" and "i wonder what the excuse is", i would personally have pointed out that it would be good to have subtitles, as Martn pointed out this was not missed deliberate, but more an ovesight. Your tone of email is abrupt (i can see you stamping your feet and saying "I'll scweem and scweem and scweem" if you don't get your own way).
btw 50 posts in 3 years, wow what a contributer to the site you are!!0 -

I know that. All I'm saying is that it would be good and useful because MSE is now spreading to mainstream TV and newspaper. Thus attracting more people to this site.btw 50 posts in 3 years wow
So? Post count doesn't matter. I have been a member since Nov 2006 and I come here to read and learn new things via discussion board, from the website, etc apart from the videos that I (and 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK) are missing out.what a contributer to the site you are!!
Now that's uncalled for. I feel you're attacking me for something that is not my fault. If you have nothing to add, pleased step away. Thank you.- Tony Sutton0
