Martin's Videos - What about us?

Options
By "Us", I am referring to Deaf people like me.

Where is the subtitles version of the videos?

It's really not fair that we are unable to understand what the videos are saying.

There are freeware tools out there that you can use to add subtitles.

So I am wondering what's the excuse of not adding subtitles to the videos?

I hope you will consider adding it soon...

It's VERY interesting to see no one has replied to this for 2 days.

This confirms my thoughts... and it disappoints me. :(

I'll add my support to this!

I'm not deaf myself but I don't see why anyone should be disadvantaged when a solution is fairly simple.

    Hi

This has only just been pointed out to me. Interesting to note there are packages that can add subtitles, we've only just started playing with videos as a format and are feeling our way as we go. I'd never really seen the videos as core to the site, more as just an add on - with the main site the aim of the redesign we're doing is to make it useable and accessible by all (obviously there's no issues for those who are deaf, but those who use screen readers should have it improved).

So on to the subtitles themselves, we'll take a look and try and consider it as an option for any future major videos.

PS. The reason it hasn't been responded to is it wasn't seen, and it's worth a general note to everyone that with over 10 paperback books of info posted here everyday - the best thing to assume is that it hasn't been seen rather than has been seen.

Thanks for the reply, Martin. I look forward to see the videos with subtitles in the future.

I am sure you will be able to find some volunteer to help out with adding subtitles.

I didn't see this post before and do of course add my support. I'll bet the same is true for others.

Lovely to see that Martin has responded and is thinking about it for the future.

We really like subtitles in my house. My husband is from a different country and sometimes misses what people say (accents, dialects etc).

Thanks for a nice response Martin:money:
:dance:Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will.

7th - 13th May 2007 is Deaf Awareness Week, could MSE somehow promote this? Perhaps intergrate a signed image in the header or something for that week.

  • :o I only watch subtitles for the comedy value of any mistakes... anyone remember the weakest link blooper... best not go there :o:D
Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
    Blackadder: Yes it is.
    Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.
