Bank account that allows online banking without OTP

Options
This is really annoying me. I currently bank with Santander but since they switched to Santander from A&L, they introduced OTP (One Time Passcode) to their online banking. Unfortunately I live where there is no mobile signal - so now I can't do any online banking!

After the run around from them, from saying they could change it back for me, to saying they couldn't, to the latest of trying to set up a SO over the phone and having them just not do it, I am like this ---->:mad::mad::mad::mad:.

Soooo - does anyone know where I can move bank account to that has online banking WITHOUT OTP? TIA.

Not sure what OTP is, maybe each time you log on you need a code that they text you? Maybe.

Lloyds, barclays and natwest you just enter password and memorial characters.

OTP = One Time Password and will probably be sent as a text. Lloyds require that they call you on a trusted phone to set up a new payee so OP will need a landline, which I would assume they have as they cannot get phone signal. I think Barclays and NatWest use the card readers which most banks do now.

First Direct don't require it at all (just enter username, password and few characters from secondary password).

Nationwide, Barclays and Co-op provide you with a "PIN Sentry" that doesn't need a cellular signal (providing a small amount extra security).

Assuming you have a landline, you could remove your mobile number from your details. They will then call your landline with a code.

I believe you need OTP only when you set up a new payee. At least that's my experience.

As an alternative, have you fully investigated how to solve the signal problem with your mobile? Change provider, install a booster etc? Not suggesting I'd do that just to solve the OTP problem - would only make sense if you cared to have a mobile phone service in your home.

Thanks for the replies. In answer, yes OTP is a code that they text you if you want to change anything with your bank account - so if you want to set up a new payee, change the date of a SO, or even the amount, etc. So it renders online banking pretty useless when you don't have a mobile phone signal. I live in the !!!! end of the !!!! end of rural Devon, and am already on the "best" provider for the area so can't improve that. I do have a landline. Santander won't call it. Thanks for the info on the other banks, I will have to look into opening an account with one of them. First Direct sounds promising.

If you go for First Direct, make sure you cash in on the £100 signup bonus

    ....

Have you tried using your landline ?

Not sure if the Santander system requires an 07nn number but if you can update your OTP record with your landline many will now accept text messages - received by means of an automated voice recording of said text message. That would be my experience of a BT landline anyway.

Its a feature I would rather not be there at all TBH as an inconsiderate sender of a text message will cause your phone to ring when sent even if at some unsociable hour. If its sent to your mobile and its off you don't at least get disturbed but anyway, we digress !

No, Santander definitely won't accept a landline number. We get texts to our landlines from family who can't talk easily on the phone so it's not our line.

I get Santander messages to my landline.

Can you not just simply remove your mobile number, or replace it with your landline?

Santander must have an option for people to remove/change their mobile number.

Don't even tell them about you mobile reception (or lack of it), it's none of their business why you want to change your phone number. Just change over to your landline.

If they are difficult, raise a formal complaint.
