Hi all,

A bit of advice please.

I'm currently on the 3 network and experience pretty slow data speeds in Nottingham. I pretty much always have full signal in and outdoors.

I currently have an LG Optimus Black smartphone which has HSDPA 7.2mbps

My question is; if I get a more modern phone with 14.4 or 21mbps HSDPA will my speeds go up?

I've been reading about DC-HSDPA. does anyone know what phones have it? So far I've seen only the Nokia 900/920 and the HTC One x, neither of which I'm interested in as they are too large.

Thanks

Probably not, your slow speeds are likely to be down to network congestion or a mast problem in your area rather than your phone. What speeds are you getting? When I had a similar problem I was getting speeds no higher than 200kbps and it turned out that the mast nearest to me wasn't working properly which meant that my phone (and all the others around me) was connecting to a now overloaded mast further away, which caused the slow speeds.

Have a look on gsmarena. I think you'll struggle to find a DC-HSDPA phone that's significantly smaller than the Nokia 920/HTC One X/Samsung Galaxy S3 size to be honest, all of the high end phones are around that kind of size.
  • averaging under 1 mbps, can get 2-3 mbps but not very often

Could well be congested where you are, I'm over in Arnold and I usually get between 2 and 4Mbps daytime and as much as 8Mbps late at night.

Phone Three and speak to their technical support team, tell them how slow your speeds are, there might well be a mast problem in your area.

    cheers, l'll do that.
I guess it could be congestion - I live near the university and there's probably hundreds of students on data dongles 24/7

out of interest, which phone do you have?
