How to get meters removed and supplies capped?

the meters are the property and responsibility of the supplier and they first have to be removed by them, National grid only will disconnect afterwards but will only do Permanent disconnections.
If the gas meters are inside you may have an issue of a soon to be redundant gas inlet which ideally should be removed for safety.
Perhaps the following is a solution - get top meter removed by gas supplier, they would cap that supply, then arrange for the removal of that and relocation of meter to bottom flat with National Grid . For me that would be the most straight forward option,I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
British Gas definately need to arrange the removal of the meter. If the properties are residential there is not ususally a cost, its a very simple procedure they complete an electronic request and give you a date for the job. If you want pipework etc removing there will be a charge. When doing the conversion you would need to contact SGn (if they are your transporter) for them to come round and give you a quote, the charges you quoted above of up to £894.00 sounds like the quote to put the new installation in. BG are now responsible for their own meters, but they will only remove the meter and cap the supply they wont touch any pipework. If you are asking them about the new supply at the same time you are dicussing the meter removal this may be why there is confuion. If you want the meters removed and the new installation fitted at the same time, all the work would then be carried out by SGN including the removal of the old meters. If you just want the meters removing for the time being then British Gas are responsible for doing this. But when your ready for the new supply this would be between you and SGN only.0

this is correctDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
It sounds like you have been speaking to a lot of clueless people.
If the meters have live accounts with gas suppliers then you need to speak to the gas supplier to raise the job. They will then pass the job to the MAM or their agent who will then remove the meter and cap the supply. Your only point of contact is the gas supplier.
Note that if the meter has been removed for more than 1 year then the gas network provider in your area may start making moves to cut off the gas service to your property.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
No, to disconnect http://www.sgn.co.uk/ScotiaGas/uploadedFiles/Gas_Connections/Charges/StandardChargesSouthernGasNetworks2012.pdf page 11 but this refers to service pipe, there are separate charges for inlet pipe which this could fall under.
But if he just wants the meters removed then this is BG's responsibility and there is no charge. I'd suggest going to www.britishgas.co.uk click on complaints and it gives you the Customer Relations number they should be able to make the appointment there and then.0
