sure you can call us paddy(which we get in the north too) all day long, ya can't call us stupid.
I would point out that your seller seems to be badly informed or using the wrong service or indeed trying to get extra from you. This doesn't mean that all sellers that surcharge for Ireland are doing the same, plenty of genuine sellers are passing on genuine costs..0 -
i used courier, i used a smaller one than listed above,
i work in the motor trade, and one of the suppliers recommended this one as they sent car parts worldwide with them,
but when i dropped it off , they said they used space with dhl for france.
it arrived there via la-post which i'm assuming is maybe french post office.
it took 5 days, and a sticker saying it had been checked (customs i think) i can't speak french, i just wave and nod. i wast out touring a month later and so it arrived in plenty of time.

i;m not saying sellers are badly informed, they're actually very clever.
i'v never received a small courier parcel of ebay with the cost mark meeting the ebay cost.
so they're prob a bulk seller with discount bonus from their courier, but are still willing to email/massage looking more money.
i just buy elsewhere. they loose out, then i tell others. their loss is my gain.0 -

so i don't see collection
staff wages to go to the post office
the wifes fuel money
extra for sweets if the kids do it.
the ticket for parking on the double yellow for "just a minute"
p&p only.
their is ranges of post, recorded, signed, second class, blah!
i don't see collection.
 i'm not paying for some lazy sod.
uk law says all charges must be open and clear, easily understood and choice to withdraw.
well i'v never seen anyone say, b.t.w. i'm paradise and have to charge for collection as i can't get down the post office.
couriers in NI ,, dhl, captain courier, yodel, ups,,
all buy and sell,(to smaller couriers,) space on the planes to england.
if they charge higher prices, they will loose out to royal mail.
the counter staff at the couriers here, say its the same uk wide.
so someone is ripping someone off, you just need to state to them that they can't charge extra, even report them.
is the wrongs of these big companies not what this site is all about, or what am i missing. :rotfl:

I'm all for opinions, but don't state 'facts' that don't exist!!!
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/basics/pandp.html
(p.s. Some of my couriers who I use for any item over about 1.5KG as they're cheaper to the mainland than RM, charge almost double to NI, and I'm not going to switch to RM and lose business because 0.1% of my customers have to pay to get their items across the sea, which I think is fair enough. Instead I just block NI, saves any problems!!!)

We pay around £4.30 to the bulk of the UK mainland for a next working day service, but a next working day service to Northern Ireland or the Scottish Highlands and Islands costs us £22!
A two day service to NI is £10, and we can actually send to the Republic of Ireland cheaper believe it or not. Apparently this is because our courier has more depots in the Republic of Ireland, but the difference is significant!
Yodel do offer a flat rate across the entire UK but I think you pay slightly more across the non-extortionate postcodes to compensate. That and they have a dodgy reputation.0 -
sorry to hijack the thread but didn't want to risk being flamed for starting a new one.
I sold an item on ebay the buyer asked how much p&p. Assuming they were UK (as overseas are tightly blocked) I gave the price.
Now they have paid and I've come to book it I can see they are in NI.
I've asked for the extra postage costs - I can't afford to pay the extra £6 out my pocket had already discounted it largely as a 'best offer' (tis a large bulky item... 6kg and 91cm in length). If not I will happily cancel the transaction. But I have a feeling they will leave a neg - if so can I challenge it??
To be fair I think the buyer should have stated they were NI when they asked me to check the postage costs as it's obvious it was too large to sent by royal mail. But they could just be naive.
Is there an ebay setting to block NI buyers?
Thanks.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
agreed. simply explain the quote was for mainland UK
Given you are using a courier, then i would expect most NI buyers to realise there is a cost difference0 -

GRRR. the buyer is refusing to answer my e-mails and ebay won't let me just cancel it unless they 'agree'. **fuming**. I refuse to post it and loose money. Given their history so far chances are they won't bother to leave feedback but if they do they will almost certainly neg and 1 star me for everything.
is it worth me e-mailing ebay? eta: case now open, lets see if buyer responds.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0
