Car Tax

Have to admit, the A2 is a lovely car. Was very expensive new, £19k, but you can pick them up for about £10k now. Audi have stopped making them, why I don't know. Total aluminuim frame, so very light........and always a head turner. :-)
PS.....not too sure, but you don't have to pay the congestion charge in London either :-)0 -

It's all a joke really however, the way the graduations are applied. Most of the vehicles that qualify for the classic car exemption are appalling gas guzzling polluters. Even an innocent Morris Minor will rarely deliver more than 35 mpg unless you get it on the open road where it might give 45mpg if it is excellently tuned and not thrashed. But it will still probably pollute quite badly about town. A series engines were always a bit basic!
My "classic car" is in the same bracket, albeit does have a catalytic converter I think!
Strangled reminds us that the Audi A2 delivers 65 mpg and costs £35 to tax which I do not begrudge.
But my 8 year old Audi A6 delivers 50 mpg even at good speeds, which is still far better than most other vehicles, yet I last paid £175 to tax it I think.
My motorhome on the other hand is 7 metres long, weighs 3.5 tonnes and does 30mpg if I am lucky, 25 if I am not, but costs the same as my A6 to tax.
What changes might I expect next time round I wonder?0 -
It's very obvious from the tax disc reminder that the rate may change in the budget. There was no reason why you couldn't have taxed your car before the budget, if you were concerned that there might be an increase.
Furthermore, if you want to avoid this faff every year, you can change your tax disc renewal date either by taking out 6 months' tax (which is more expensive) or by cashing in your tax on the last day of February next year, declaring "SORN", parking your car off road overnight, and taxing it on the 1st day of March. Quite a bit of faff, but worthwhile if you want to keep the car for a long time and avoid the budget stress.0 -

I wouldn't actually go for a 6 month tax cos u pay an extra 10% in the normal rate.
To avoid the budget rises, simply tax your car before the budget is announced. bear in mind though you can only tax it from the 15th.
It also clearly says on that form you have that the price is likely to change in the budget. it's in bright red...0 -
