I went to tax my car today and it clearly states on the application £68.75, I was charged £77 and was told the reason behind it is it went up in the budget, I didnt take the piece of paper that states £68.75, surely I should have been charged the original quote....

Nope.
You pay the price on the day.
It went up in the Budget, and that is usually effective immediately.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Unfortunately you weren't being quoted by a company for a service, this is a government tax. Basically, you are Gordon Brown's !!!!! when it comes to this, as we all are.0

Taxed my car the week after the budget - it was free! How come? Because it's an histotic vehicle made prior to 1st Jan 1973, hence the tax disc is free."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I have the 1.4 Tdi, get about 65 mpg, insurance about £200 fully comp, but the the 1.2 is even cheaper.....its zero tax on the exhaust emissions.0
