Removal quote

Hi
I've been quoted £822 inc VAT to move from a 3-bed to a 4-bed house a mile away in Buckinghamshire. We've got no unusual items nor have we got more stuff than would be expected, and we are doing our own packing. The price includes insurance but I will be checking my home insurance to see if I am already covered or whether cover through them would be cheaper. I've got another firm lined up to quote but does this seem a fair price? I've never used a professional removals firm before so have no idea.
Thanks

If it's only a mile away, why not hire a van and get some pizza and beer for a few mates?
Total cost will be around £100ish IMHO0 -
Huh you are lucky it cost us 2,600.00 to move 10 miles, your quote seems about right, although I would get three quotes and let them know that you are getting other quotes, we couldn't do much about our removal costs, as my husband is receiving treatment for cancer and couldn't lift anything. Although we did have the middle quote as there vehicles seemed in better nick, other than that as it is only a mile you are moving hire a transit van ffor the weekend it will work out cheaper.0

That sounds good, we moved same distance in 2004, from exact same house layout to house, and it cost well over £1k - but was totally worth it, had rented for 10 years before that and didnt think my back could take another move, or my brain work out how to get a wardrobe up the stairs ;-)0

Always get your home contents insurer to cover you if at all possible, and never rely on the removal company.Aylesbury_Duck wrote: »The price includes insurance but I will be checking my home insurance to see if I am already covered or whether cover through them would be cheaper.
I did rely on the removal firm, some years ago, and it turned out 'insurance' meant "we'll reimburse you whatever amount we see fit". Needless to say, I only found that out after damage had been suffered. And that was a big household name, not a small company.0 -
thanks everyone. I will see what the other quotes come back as.

I have just had a quote for £1.5k to go 40 miles for 23 cubic mtrs of things. Full packing service. E.Midlands.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

I have had a quote for £545 to move 1 mile down the road. I have a 5 bed house (but I do not have loads of clutter) but only moving 3 bedrooms worth of furniture, office, living room, dining room, only washing machine in kitchen plus boxes, garden furniture and minimal junk in garage (mainly xmas stuff).0

I saw an auction site on the 'superscrimpers' programme a while back and took a note of it as knew I'd need it as moving v.soon.:starmod: anyvan.com :starmod:
Its fairly simple, Ive recently put in my details;
Describe what you need moving and Specify your dates.
Put in the collection & delivery address.
And this is some of the reply on email.......
"We have over 10,000 companies who will be alerted of your job especially the ones making a similar journey.
Within 0 - 3 hours these companies will begin to quote for the job. As these companies are making similar journeys they can do it for a fraction of the cost. Rest assured, you will find it hard to find a cheaper quote elsewhere.
You can accept or decline quotes or reply to any questions you receive so now you can sit back and wait for very competitive quotes to come in.
Don't forget, we don't charge any fees so the amount you are quoted is the amount you pay"

Paying for professional removal men is my absolute number one thing budgeted for.
It is absolutely truly unbelievable how impossible it is moving one large item or box at a time from a house into a van. Jeez... never ever again! They are worth their weight in gold 100x over.
I was charged around £1k for packing and moving from a 2 bed house to a 4 bed 4 storey house around 16 miles away. Would have cost around £600 without the packing.
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
That's £685 excluding vat so that seems very reasonable for professional movers. Three (probably) men's wages, the lorry and office overheads for one day would easily eat that figure up.It's someone else's fault.0
