inspection chamber is 3-5ft away from were we want a new soil/waste pipe for new bathroom.
pipe in inspection chamber looks like a glazed pipe with a glazed lid. everything is concrete eg floor, side of chamber etc.
inspection chamber is aprox 1-2ft deep.
Been quoted £840 inc vat

Is it an ok price??

i think its a bit pricy, i would dig the trench yourself and then just get a plumber to connect the soli pipe.,0

Digging the trench is the least of the job. Knowing what to do and how to do it is what you are paying for.

gradient not a prob, digging not a prob.
however making a good join to the clay pipe is a prob.
getting another quote 2 men 1.5 days , awaiting the price.
i am assuming they will just sit a pipe on side of clay pipe(slipper bend) then sit existing cover over it.0 -
pipe in chamber could just be a glazed halfpipe/channel, the pipework under the ground maybe plastic they wont have to join into the exisiting pipe they can just flow it into the exisiting channel
the price isnt too bad they still have to cut and break out concrete excavate for the pipe then excavate a section out to be able to "break" into the existing inspection chamber which by the sounds of it is concrete section- which may also have a concrete backfill surround. Depending on height break out some of the haunching above the existing channel then put all the fittings and pipework in, repair haunching inside of inspection chamber repair the hole where they broke in, back fill and redo the concrete flooring and remove the spoil that was broke out/excavated0 -
I would personally get a minimum of three quotes and compare. I think the most laughable thing about that quote is the time to do the job.
For a competent two man crew that's a days work at the very most. Price sounds a bit steep to me personally, but difficult to say for sure without seeing the site, current drainage set-up etc.0 -

ummm i think if the read the OP's post number 1 thats exactly what he said, 1 man = 2 days or 2 men = 1 day, so not quite sure what your point is ? as both are the same.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

OP's first post mentions nothing about man power as far as I can see, just says two days? Their second post says 2 men 1.5days.
After lurking on these forums for ages I should have seen these responses coming after re-reading my first post!!!
In reality though, how can any of us honestly say if a price is reasonable without doing a site visit! There's just too many variables to base an opinion on a few lines of text surely!
Anyway, hope the OP got a price they were happy with!0 -
lol it does not look difficult. lol
2 companies i have had in have said its a fairly easy job.
Breaking the concrete seems to be the most difficult part.
The second company has not got back to me as yet(have used them before). They normally just charge me an hourly rate so should be a good bit cheaper.
the chamber does have a half glazed pipe. i reckon 1.5 day is about correct. i assume most of the second day will be rebuilding the side of chamber wall and making good the concrete.0
