I am a bit of a luddite where mobiles are concerned & have never used my phone for internet so far.
However, I am about to upgrade to an i phone & will use it mainly for checking emails while out & about; possibly a little bit of web browsing, twitter etc, how much data do I really need for this?
Orange offer various packages for 100mb/ 250mb / 500mb - I have tried to research & all the advice is to check your current usage , which I can't.
Obviously it will be the more the better, but I don;t want to pay over the odds if that is way too high for my needs, so has anyone any advice?
Thanks.

Without having any current usage it's hard to say. I have an android phone and I use it for checking emails, twitter, checking football scores, weather etc.
I use between 50 and 100 mb per month. Beware though, some apps like twitter, and weather will refresh every few minutes unless you turn this off. My first month I used > 250 mb!
Look at the total cost over the contract too, generally it doesn't work out much more overall to get more minutes/text/data than to pay more upfront for the handset.
Just to add, I'm in a similar position. I can upgrade and fancy an iPhone, but am waiting until tomorrow's announcement before pulling the trigger. Having said that, I found this deal today that is very tempting - http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/Apple/Apple-iPhone-4S-16GB-Black/Orange/Orange-iPhone-25-%2824mths%29/11560183 - I'm not a massive user so the allowances are fine for me.0 -
I would be looking for a tariff offering you a minimum of 500MB per month, you'll probably use more than you initially expect to.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Have a look at T-Mobile, they offer unlimited browsing and emailing with a limit on downloading and streaming etc, if you aren't going to be doing much streaming/downloading a 250MB allowance should be enough with them.0

Go for 500mb. After acquainting yourself with the features on your phone you'll probably want to do more with it such as music/video streaming, app downloading etc. 500mb is fine for general use and gives a bit of headroom for the aforementioned.0

There are plenty of ways to reduce the amount of data you download.
Make use of any free wi-fi there is around.
If you are using GPS, download the maps using wi-fi at home then use the maps off-line when you are out and about - this doesn't stop the GPS eating your battery though !

Or install an offline sat nav that doesn't use data.0

In a very similar position (apart from twitter) - though I've actually bought an iPhone 4S and still playing with it:o.
I've got a free SIM from Giffgaff, currently on PAYG, and happy with it. I'm giving it a a month's trial before I commit to a 'Goodybag' & port my number.0 -
Thanks all, think I will go for 250mb, I really won't be downloading or streaming anything so I'll see how it goes. Can always incresase later.0
