Good luck with it all
Thanks,
Do hope we stay on good terms as don't want the child to suffer i know of many families who don't get on and have a child in the middle
its very heart breaking0 -
child benefit does not need to be informed that you have sperated.
it's only tax credits that need to be told.
Most of skipped this post as didn't see it sorry
You sure about that? as i was told before from Benefit team on the phone both needed to be updated and informed of any new address where person is living
as surely you cant claim a benefit and not live at that address?0 -
I don't understand the CTC system as i have never claimed them. If you are employed just make sure you check out who is the best person to claim the CTC.
Good luck0 -

Child Benefit don't need your change of address because the Child Benefit was in your ex's name only and so your change of address is irrelevant. They only need her change of address if she has moved and they will not accept that information from you.
Tax Credit Office do need to know that you have separated and your change of address because you had a joint claim with your ex. They will cease that joint claim and then it is up to you and your ex to decide who should claim child tax credit for the children. However if she keeps the Child benefit it would be more difficult for you to get child tax credit though you can apply for working tax credit.
By the way - the fact that child tax credit was paid to you only means that when you and your ex made your original joint application for tax credits you decided, between you that it should go into your bank account. You could just as easily asked for it to be paid into your ex's account.

Nannytone is correct she is saying CB don't need to know of the separation it is irrelevant to the claim for CB. They do need to know of the change of address though. Lots of people move and never inform the CB office, and unless they send random letters just to check details etc they will never know or frankly care!0 -
As you will be claiming Tax Credits as a single person, you do need your ex to have all her records including Child Benefit updated with her new address so there is no conflicting information about who lives at your residence.
It could take a while to sort your claim for CTC with you not being the recipient of Child Benefit. The helpline staff can only advise you to make the claim but will not be making the decision on whether it's payable to you.
I hope your split remains amicable0
