Glad to see someone who is standing up to the politicians on fuel taxes & Vat. Re: your appearance on daily politics.
Just how right you are to point out that 60% of petrol price is Tax and it is not the price of oil that keeps it high but the greedy government taxes. In America Petrol is probably less than $2 a Gallon yet oil companies still make huge profits. Your Conservative politician's answer was that money would have to come from somewhere else.Perhaps that place could be from not participating in foreign wars and buying military equipment that we don't need. Submarines for instance.

Hopefully he didn't throw a "toddler", foot stamping, petulant tantrum like a few years ago, when not doing very well in a debate with Angela Knight (Bankers' Association), on breakfast television!

So do you want the American way or not?

The drivers in the USA are up in arms because the petrol (gas) price is at a record high of $3.85 per (US) gallon. This is one of the big factors in the upcoming presidential election. [1]

This translates to about 63 pence per litre here in sunny [2] Britain.:(

Still it could be worse if we lived in Norway, Denmark, Sweden or Italy :)

[2] Sunny when I typed this.

Average about 14 cents a litre in Saudi Arabia, if you fancy moving. I don't like the sun that much though.

You can't take the pump price or individual taxes between countries in isolation. Voters here have historically wanted relatively low % income tax rates, oblivious that the tax pot has to be made up from somewhere.

If you speak well thank a teacher, if you speak English thank our military.....

And submarines? You mean replacing the ones that are decades old, need a full refit and house 200 of our finest who spend months at sea, away from family and friends, risking their lives so that you can feel safe in your bed at night?

Now shut up about things you know nothing about (beyond the tripe you read in the Daily Mail).

You were doing quite well up to here.

Like not giving the billions that the EU sucks out every year perhaps.

    Half reasonable point.

:rotfl:Epic fail. Apart from anything else have you any idea what the unemployment level would be in your neck of the woods if the grey funnel line wasn't there. Get a grip. Or have you got a NIMBY agenda as regards submarines in Devonport?

    Cheers

Why? Who has threatened us in the last 70 years? If it had been the Soviet Union, and it had all kicked off, then it wouldn't have mattered how many submarines we had.

Perhaps it is you who should shut up, particularly when someone has made a completely valid point, about our participation in two wars which had nothing to do with the safety of this island, and everything to do with a Prime Minister who was concerned with his own glory and "legacy".

If you know the guy down the road carries a f**king big stick, you also know his house is very unlikely to get burgled.

Military tech moves on and the UK are already decades behind, look to the fawklands to see what happens when somebody thinks your a soft touch......

The fact is, you buy this stuff in the hope of never having to use it.

The OP was talking about two military "adventures" which we should not be involved in, and which are costing us £billions.
