Chair & Sofa Legs - Just posted on 'In my home' board but anyone help here?

Sorry if two posts is not allowed butnot sure where to put this post below:-

After being assessed by an Occupational Therapist I now realise our sofa & chairs are too low and I struggle to stand from sitting. So we have put some old pillows in the seat cushions which helps and next is to put new higher legs on (the sofa & chairs not me ) and so wonder if anyone knows any sources.

I have seen some online but which are too traditional and too expensive. They also need to be easy to fit as I am not as young & fit as I used to be.

You can buy 'chair raisers', would these be suitable for your chairs/sofas?.
  • Hi,

I got some chair and sofa raiser blocks (and bed raisers) from my Occupational Therapist (from Social Services). They were supplied free of charge as 'minor adjustments'. They were not even' means tested'.

It maybe worth asking the Social Services OT if they can supply them.

Find your local phone book, tear it in quarters, and place under legs.

Coincidently the OT's assistant has just dropped a catalogue in called 'OT Stores'. The OT is off this week and her assistant said she will ask OT again when she's back.

Not sure I have the strength to tear it page by page at the moment. Must get some spinach down me :j

Seriously RogerBlack you always know the answer as I am always reading your posts and you mean to tell me you have no serious answer on this one :p
  • Your existing furniture prolly has an M8 screwed foot / bun / etc such as these change them for bigger ones or these double height buns.

Thanks Richie - I never thought to look at eBay. I have sold on there a few times but never and I mean never bought anything off there. I tend to always look at Amazon as they sell most things. The trouble with Googling to it turns up lots of supplier but - wow - the prices.

I have about eleven billion tons of wood of random dimensions laying about my house and gardens, for reasons that are obscure to me, as well as a working powersaw.

I would also tend in the same situation to use 4 housebricks.

My standards of interior decoration may not be very high. :)

I assume you mean four per corner in which case I will need a trowel and some mortar :p
