I was unable to have all rings on at the same time.
Any suggestions of what could be wrong please?

On the first day in my old flat, I found that the gas hob went out as soon as the central heating came on. I called the emergency number for gas leaks (as there was also a faint smell of gas). A pipe hadn't been joined correctly and the wrong size pipes had been used in the new kitchen.0 -

It's usually a big lever next to the gas meter. The lever should be pointing the same way as the pipe to turn it on, and at right angles to the pipe to turn it off. Anywhere in between is partially on, which is bad.
Where the meter isn't readily accessible, there may be another one somewhere near where the pipe enters the house. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
