Cooker gas pressure.

Hi I am with British Gas. I was cooking dinner this evening and had the oven on and 3 gas rings in use. As I lit a new gas ring the flame of the one that was alight reduced in height and power.
I was unable to have all rings on at the same time.
Any suggestions of what could be wrong please?

could be a blockage, undersized gas pipework, low incoming gas pressure, faulty govenor on the meter, this situation is classed as "at risk" you need to get it checked by a rgi or your local gas transportor (in your case british gas) ASAPI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Gascock partially turned off? Partial blockage of pipe?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

How did the other rings behave when fully lit?
Did the other rings stay lit and burn with what looked like a correct flame?0 -

Each ring will burn fully until another ring is lit, then it will reduce in height and power. If I was to turn the ring down to low it will go out. The flames look different, yellow .... they are usually blue and straight.... these are sort of yellow and floppy... no form to them

Safety first, Stop using this appliance, SCRGI has already stated its AR.
If you are with BG then call them and explain the problem.
It may be worth checking to see if the gas control !!!! has been accidentally knocked and is partially closed. There are lots of possible causes for this problem but be safe and stop using it.0 -
Yes I won't be using it until I get it checked. It's almost like the bunsen burner effect... open up the air flow and the flame burns blue and true, close it and it's yellow and undefined.
DH attempted to clean the top of the cooker yesterday and poured a 'little' water on the hob to allow it to soak. I'm wondering if the 'little' drop of water was slightly more than I would have used and that things have got wet and blocked.
I wouldn't know where to look for the gas controls and I certainly wouldn't know if they were on or off!
thanks for the help

This could indicate incomplete combustion meaning that carbon monoxide is being produced. Carbon monoxide can kill.
Apart from checking that your main gas tap (emergency control valve) is fully open (lever parallel to the pipe) this sounds like the governor has failed, or is starting to fail, and it should be reported to your local gas transporter.
Before phoning the gas transporter, see if any of your neighbours have the same problem. This could indicate a local fault with the gas supply.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

I checked this evening my neighbour 2 houses away was fine.
I will put the carbon monoxide alarm in the kitchen to see if it goes off.
The dog sleeps in the kitchen and she's fine atm

Gas flames should be blue, not yellow. Being yellow is a sign of incomplete combustion (the yellow is caused by hot glowing particles of soot in the flame). Anyway, if it's burning yellow, your appliance is likely to be producing carbon monoxide.0

I cannot believe that after 24 hours and numerous statements that there is a potentially dangerous problem, the OP is still dithering and fannying around and to top it all is using her poor dog as a canary.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
