Me too Lula. I dream spreadsheets.

Problem is, that focused I just don't understand why anyone wouldn't. Was discussing the ther day with a definitely not MFW, and no matter what I said or showed him, he was very live in the moment.

So many people are live in the moment.... Whilst I understand it to a degree, I just couldn't be like that....

We have friends that spend every penny they get every month and have nothing to show for it. They have piles of debt, rent a house as the ine they owned was repossessed, have a company car and cupboards full of cra9 that they don't need. When an unexpected bill comes in they are totally stuffed. They earn decent money too.... I couldn't live like that. They've not even had a holiday in the last 10 years as they are unable to save money.

However, they do have every single Xbox game going, premium sky packages in all rooms of the rented house, fridge full of junk food and a bin full of takeaway boxes.

So, I choose a life of dreaming about spreadsheets any time!!!

Me too. I know 'each to their own' etc but you really do wonder about people's priorities sometimes. Still, with a fridge full of junk, and lots of takeaways, they probably don't need to worry about their retirement as they won't be around to see it .
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

This is why i love this forum. Everyone feels the same. Thanks guys.
    Thanks Brizzled, thats really nice.

An old school friend dh has just gone bankrupt, and moved in with parents. They have some really expensive holidays, florida with limos from airport, always taking kids going to concerts, and their kids seem to have a very different attitude to money than ours and my kids go a bit green but you do wonder... I just assumed they were doing Very well, clearly not.
I felt really mean refusing DD1 to go in half term skiing trip but it was about £600, and the term before she wanted to go on the france one for a similar amount. I felt a bit grumpy about paying for her to go to London for the night and to watch a show as part of her classwork but it was over £200. Dd3 went for day with school for about £30

Had a free months supply of dish washer tabs yesterday - a survey with Toluna, so just need to fill in a questionaire at end of month and points too.
Also yesterday got some free face cleanser from one of the product testing sites, again need to fill in questionaires.

Didn't quite make £10 on ebay yesterday, however still shifted some stuff that I don't want. Postage should just make it over that. 9 items sold in total, but really did price to shift as do want my utility back!

Have lots of sites close to pay out threshold but not quite there. Having to get more and more imaginative for search words on swagbucks!

Grocery Shopping yesterday and still have some money left, however DH passed me petrol reciept for his car (v rarely used) for £25 which has sent my normal budget a few pounds over. It will last ages though as its only used if Im at work and he needs to take the kids to music/swimming etc, as he isnt allowed to use his works vehicle for personal use (he gets his petrol paid) and its not worth the risk. Although it is a pain having to have this extra car. (read shed on wheels)

  • Hi helendavekids,

Am just building up the courage to start my own MFW diary, I have been following LilyP's since November and have started a min 75% overpayment each month! Sounds so very impressive, but it's not its £200 PCM I even did my signature yesterday (well it's a start).

I have a friend who is vice principal of a school, earns a fortune, and is permanently skint!!! It drives me crazy. The "well I bought the new ford focus because the payments were £180 PCM cheaper than the landrover discovery?" Doh but you only had 9 payments left on the discovery, how many years have you got the focus over, response "just five!!!"

Yet she wastes a fortune on Gourmet Club cards, wonga loans, credit card interest and has extended her mortgage to end when she is 68. After numerous remortgages of course.

Am I wicked for wanting to bang my head against a wall after speaking to her??? I could not have that couldn't care less attitude towards money. Nor am I able to understand why intelligent, well balanced people would?

Thanks A-L. Look forward to reading yours too.

Its so exciting seeing those Op's grow. Have you done yourself a spreadsheet, as I find that its really motivating updating each time.

It is so frustrating seeing waste, especially when the kids wonder why I won't do the same as their mates parents. Although I think they get it more now they are older.

Cashed in my survey as just (literally) hit threshold. sooooo close with swagbucks. Used my free DW tabs and cleanser.
Posted 6 items this morning, 2 ready for tomorrow and just waiting for one more to pay.
Fairly rubbish day at work but hey ho.

I think our frugal ways will rub off on the children in a really positive way. My eldest has just turned 9 and he has a definite concept of money in a way that I haven't seen from his friends....

    .

I am still using my "keeping the wolves from the door spreadsheet" which I set up five years ago! I am impressed at how quickly it is building up!

Kids certainly do pick up on everything. At half term, Nathan wanted to raise £10 for comic relief! We made cupcakes, and sold them to friends, the weekend before last he announced he wanted to raise money for 'Nathan Relief' a tad confused, I asked how Nathan Relief would benefit people? He replied that Nathan relief, was to help Nathan with toys! :D he has almost £35 already!:j
