Orange - Travel Angel - DO NOT TRUST IT

Been with Orange for a number of years. Always end up with large bills when abroad however hard I try to restrict use.
However I got persuaded to use the travel angel app as we had the latest Iphone. The deals were good and a lot cheaper , so used the app to buy two bundles for a fortnight in Portugal.
First bundle fine - checked every day and didn't go over the data bundle limit.
Second bundle - checked every day and didn't go over the bundle limit - ACCORDING TO THE APP.
What a con - despite showing that I still had 0.7 MB of data on the last day - which I didn't use - I got home to a bill for £22 extra for data.
Having done nothing different each week I disputed it and spoke to the most irritating woman I've ever come across in my life.
Apparantly the app updates every 24 hours, and despite me using my allowance after three days in the second week (god knows how) the app decided not to tell me. However the app works perfectly and I can't prove that it doesn't work!!!
So unless you take pictures of the travel app screen everyday , you can't prove that the app doesn't work.
My advise - Don't trust TRAVEL ANGEL - its a con and Orange will not believe you. I've made a written complaint and I'll see it through to the end. But wanted to warn the unsuspecting.

Perhaps other people have the sense to look at the feedback on an app before using it. Any app that has the score fairly equally split between 5 stars and 1 star has a problem.

And looking at the second review -
"BEWARE!! This app is made by orange but is NOT linked to orange. I went to Mexico on honeymoon and bought two bundles through the app. When I got back to UK i had a bill for £534! The bundles didn't work. Dealing with orange has been a problem, they said wonderful things on the phone but took money out of my account in spite of saying they would re-calculate the bill. I wouldn't have used the phone if I didn't have this app and its lies."
So next time, instead of picking an app with 55 reviews, and 15 of those say it is rubbish, why not use something else, such as 3G Watchdog, that has 55,345 5 star reviews.0 -

I recently read on a tech site that the data measurement is based on what the Operator sends you. If you're in a weak area then the carrier can send but you don't receive or measure the data.

I've just spent a week in Switzerland and purchased the £3.00 a day roaming bundle for data. Travel Angel was brilliant when it worked, BUT at least half the time it didn't. It kept reporting that I was in the UK and wouldn't show me how much data I had used. I even emailed Orange about it and have not received so much as an acknowledgement from them. According to Orange I have spent over £30.00 this month. I shall be scanning every line of my bill, and shall be disputing anything which I don't agree with.

Good luck with your complaint. Sent two letters both of which have not been acknowledged or responded to. Email is "being upgraded" and I refuse to waste an hour of my time talking to another young upstart. I will take my complaint to CISAS.
Orange used to be a good company. Now too big, they don't care and they CON you.
Don't buy TRAVEL ANGEL it will CON you.

I will not be renewing my contract with this set of bandits0 -

Did you get anywhere with your complaint please? - I have a similar story.0 -
Anyone have any updates re this? I'm currently in dispute with Orange over a bill for over £600 that arrived following a trip to NZ, had the app and bought the bundles and checked it religiously so there is no way I'm paying it- seem to get a different response every time I call and even had someone ring me at midday on Xmas day! I'm due for renewal and will never willingly give these bar-stewards another penny of my hard earned cash.0

Just got back from Portugal where both of us needed the mobile data bundles purchased from Orange. Angel kept stopping working and within two days I had no internet connection despite all settings being ok. My son then had the same problem and we had to keep going out to cafes with wifi to conduct business. Both phones have been used abroad satisfactorily without the bundles and Angel. At least it hasn't cost me anything. Orange say that they are investigating; we'll see!!0
