What would you do? Really worried

My husband and I were walking home one night when a car nearly ran us over, we decided to ignore the people because we didn't want to get into an argument, however the clearly drunk/drugged up man chased us down the street trying to fight but as we are not like that we ran off! We phoned the police and by the time they got there he had gone and the police were not interested in following it up or viewing CCTV. The man said he would kill us if he ever saw us again and at the time we were told by the police he is probably just a random drunk who we will never see again and not to worry.
Today, two weeks later he has walked passed my hubbys work (this is where it happened first) and pretended to slit his throat as he walked passed the window. My husband just ignored him and did not phone the police- however I am really concerned. He thinks we should just ignore him but I'm concerned he is actually going to do something! My husband said if we call the police and they find out who he is we might open a can of worms....What do you think we should do? I am very worried
We have absolutely no idea who he is!

Personally, yes I'd report it.
Did you have an incident number for the first incident? You'll be able to link the incidents more readily if so (but no problem if you haven't).0 -
I'd contact the police and log this incident with them, making sure the person I reported it to also knows about the previous one.
Did anyone else see him make the gesture? Could it have been captured on CCTV?0 -
Yes they gave us an incident number and a victim support letter came through today.
What if they manage to track him down and we get more problems? Or he could start getting friends to bother us and stuff? It's just so annoying, can't believe someone can be so horrible when we have literally done nothing wrong!0 -

Nobody else saw the gesture and it was not caught on CCTV however he would have been filmed at some point walking through the shopping centre.0 -
I would definately report this incident to the police and explain that it follows on from another nasty encounter with the same person recently. I think there may be a case of mistaken identity and that this oddball has an issue with someone who he thinks your partner is. To be so aggressive and threatening twice suggests this isn't just some random drunk. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

Agree. Also, OP, you need to keep a diary of EVERYTHING this person does toward you and your other half. Even if you don't report every incident, you will have a record of everything that's happened. If it does escalate, or it carries on to the point that you really can't take any more, then you'll have something to show for the police.
I know it's difficult but it really is best if you just try and ignore this person and get on with things. Let him carry on in his sad little existence.0 -
He thought that we said something about them nearly hitting us in their car (which we would have been in our right to do as they were very close to hitting us!) but instead we literally did nothing- all we were doing was having a conversation about how we shouldn't say anything as it's not worth it, we didn't even look at them because we hate any conflict and you never know what nutcase you are going to run into, it was clearly our lucky day.0

God what a horrible situation, I really feel for you OP.
I would definitely report it though. The guy is clearly some kind of nutjob.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I would report it this guy sounds like he has a screw loose and how much longer can you go on looking over your shoulder?

If there's a chance he may have been picked up on CCTV in the area, I'd definitely report it sooner rather than later. The police have the chance to look at the CCTV now but won't if you leave it too long.0
