Males in admin roles?

I see a job advertised for a local training company,

Administrator / Data Entry Clerk - (Full-time / Permanent)
Job Duties:
Data entry, Administration, Telephone duties.
Qualifications / Experience:
GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C) or equivalent essential. Experience of Microsoft Office and good telephone communication skills essential. Must be able to work as part of a team and on own initiative.

I am thinking of applying but wouldn't really want to be stuck in an all female enviornment (I am male) Do men do these kind of jobs? Sorry if this sounds daft.

Apply, and hopefully you'll get an interview. You should be able to have a look around the office during the interview.
    Mortgage when started: £330,995

Thanks, I remember when I was at tech, the admin class was all female, but thats going back to the 90's, perhaps things have changed now.
  • Things weren't even like that back in the 80s

I started my career with a UK bank as a data input clerk in a room full of women (I am a male). It was very amusing watching from the corner whilst they regularly fell out with each other! Some of the arguments would have put episodes of Jeremy Kyle to shame! They never had an issue with me - or least not to my face. That career lasted 14 years before I was made redundant, but spent the last few years there working in a very well paid IT position. I say go for it.

I'm currently doing admin for the council and it's like 85% men.
Men can be just as bad as women. It took me a while to figure this out but the men in my immediate space, 1 of them don't like 2 of them and they just do not open their mouths to each other. They are grown men 40 plus as well which is just ridiculous to me. They don't even say good morning to each other.

Yes it does sound daft and yes plenty of men do these sorts of jobs. However bearing in mind all your other posts asking for advice about your current terrible job that you seem to hate I'd have thought you would apply for it just to get out of where you are now.

    Yep, I have applied
  • At my firm we have males performing a similar role to the one the OP describes. The department is a nice mix of men and women.

At my last company, one of the directors had a male PA/Secretary who was actually very highly respected and very good at his job.
