Which suppliers offer Economy 10?
Hi,
We are on Economy 10 electricity from SSE (Scottish Hydro) and have been notified of price hikes of at least 9% from October. We'd like to switch suppliers, but are struggling to find alternative suppliers who offer Economy 10. EDF used to, but they no longer offer it to new customers. Any others we might look at?

Don't even try to switch whilst on E10. Attempting to do so invariably ends in tears.0 -

Thanks for the replies. I have tried SP, NPower and EON and done a widespread search and I have yet to find one single energy company other than our exisiting one - Scottish Hydro - that will offer us an Economy 10 tarrif, either because they do not offer it at all, or will not offer it to new customers.
I'm now going to have to do some calculations based on the last 12 months useage to see if we could save money by changing the meter to a standard one and moving to a cheaper supplier, given Scottish Hydro's plans to rais prices by 9% or more from October.
We have a wet electric system (Amptec boiler) supplying both radiators and hot water. Problem is that it's a self-catering cottage and guests have no incentive to economise or use other equipment (dishwasher, washing machine etc.) during off-peak hours, though we do politely request that they do.0 -
Are you in the original Scottish Hydro area?
If so, have you got a THTC meter?
I know Npower have tariffs for those.
These types of meters are classed as non standard so may not be on comparison sites. However, you could contact each one for a quote.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
As far as British Gas is concerned, although they don't have any economy 10 tariffs, they will put customer with one of these meters on an economy 7 tariff (which can work out in the customer's favour).
NB: I work for British Gas. Any views I express are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.0 -

For complex ex regional specific E10's such as dual MPAN metering would require rewiring of the consumer unit first.
For single MPAN E10, they always existed in every region and work in a similar fashion to E7 so I guess Bgas took a commercial decision not to price them up. Any supplier who is ex regional had prices for these, although the metering would have slightly different time patterns.
Do they swap them out for free by way of a compromise?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

Why did you try?
Having said that, it is good to see that the suppliers have not let the possibility of a quick commission cloud their judgement in the advice they have provided you :T0 -
