Specsaver - Can I cancel a glasses order when brought in store

I went for a eyetest today at specsavers, as I had a bit of double vision. The eyesight test came out inclusive of what causing the double vision. Anywaythe only thing they said I need reading glasses 1.25 prescription.

I’ve never had to wear glasses until now, so know nothing aboutthem. I don’t read much during my work as my job is hands on.
I’ve paid £100 for 2 pairs of reading glasses, though seenthe same perscription for glasses in Superdrug, poundland etc all much more cheaper. Ok I know lesserstandard, but the time I am wearing them will be minimal.

I felt a cornered when in specsaver thus they had to close asale & I had to choose straight away.

I ordered these today & they said they will be in nextweek. However, I am having 2nd thoughts about my choice & if Ireally do need them.

Can I cancel the order does anyone know?

  • Just so you know for future 'bought' is the word you're looking for, as in 'purchased'. 'Brought' is when you bring something with you.
  • Specsavers say that they will put any problems right, 'no quibble, no fuss', so I would suggest you buy a pair of readers from the pound shop, pick your Specsavers glasses up next week, and compare the two for a few days (so you can try them in different situations). If you don't feel that there's any difference, take the S/s glasses and the £ shop glasses into the store, explain that there's no real difference, and ask for a refund under no quibble no fuss. You should only expect a refund for the glasses, though - not the sight test.
"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams

    Hi penny

Many thanks for this. Yes I'm not expecting the eye test fee back .

Its just I wanted to know everything OK with my eyes. Then came out £100 worse off when ones in pound shop do me !

The only thing these frames are the bendy ones they are far superior then pound ones, but so is the price. Be interested to see how specsavers guarentee is how quibble free!

It annoys me too but so do people like yourself who don't even attempt to contribute to the thread other than having a go at the OP for grammar or spelling mistakes in an attempt to make themselves look superior.

OP, I don't think there's anything you can do I'm afraid, Specsavers are unlikely to give you a refund as there is nothing wrong with the glasses you purchased.

Curious to know why you bought two pairs of reading glasses, particularly as you are not going to be wearing them much? I wear reading glasses a lot and only have one pair!

Pointing something out isn't having a go.

You're a product of our modern society where any sort of polite correction is deemed cruel and 'having a go' when that is in no way the intention and no malice is involved.

It was simply a friendly and civil correction so that the person knows where they're going wrong. If they chose to act on it great, if not no harm done.

But by all means draw what conclusions you wish.
  • Curious to know why you bought two pairs of reading glasses,

It might well have been a "two for one", "buy one pair, get the second half price" or similar sort of promotion.
  • What annoys me is as Black Sheep pointed out, any tiny correction is now not allowed.

How are people meant to learn?
  • It could be that they are glasses for every day use, if you are getting double vision?

    I totally agree.
If someone posts a question or response on here and they give false or misleading information, this is usually pointed out to them fairly quickly, which provided it's done in a non condescending manner, is fair enough.
Why shouldn't errors in grammar and spelling also be pointed out in the same way?

After all, none of us are perfect and we all make mistakes, and if these are not pointed out, the same mistake may well occur again and again.

Yes, this is a consumer rights forum and not a literacy class, but many people who come on here with problems, end up writing to the companies concerned, and a well thought out, grammatically correct letter may get taken more seriously and have a better outcome than a letter that has spelling and grammar mistakes.

(I'm an engineer and not an English scholar, so feel free to point out any errors I've made in the above post).
