Excessive Electricity Bill

I received a ridiculous bill fron British Gas (electricity) which was about 4 times the size of my normal quarterly bill. I phoned in with the correct reading and expected to receive a new bill, but nothing happened. I've emailed and written to them, but they STILL keep demanding payment for this excessive amount. I was in the middle of transferring my gas & electricity to Scottish Power and expected the transfer to be held up whilst BG sorted out my problem, but suprisingly the transfer has gone ahead. I am still getting demands from BG for payment of this excessive bill, they are clearly ignoring all correspondence. I'm sure there is an ombudsman I can appeal to - can anyone help with the address?
I'm also miffed that rather than saving with Scottish Power, as expected, I'm actually paying a larger monthy DD than my combined gas & electricity (by different companies) was before! :-/

They don't listen and they don't care either.
Settle with them over a long repayment period. Then contact:-

British Gas is a part of Centrica.

Let's hope energywatch can kick their butt rather than lick it.0 -

Please can you elaborate on this bit? I thought that with Scottish Power online you could put meter readings in whenever you want to so that their estimates are better and the monthly DD payment isn't excessive?0 -
We have received a gas bill form the bureau of defaulters for £270, it is addressed to my husband Mr J. Paine, 3 Miller Avenue, Canterbury CT" 8NZ, we have written to these people 3 times and each time it has came back just a s before, but this time they have informed us that the bill is for a property at 3, Wife of Bath Hill CT2 8PG. Now as no-one seems to be taking any notice of us I am hoping you can put this in the correct hands, we really feel that we are being treated unfairly as now they want us to provide proof that we have lived at this address for the last 21 years. Why should we do all the running around, we have told them the situation we had a 50p meter for a long time and gor the last 7 years have been on a Qyantum meter. Please if you can help us. thank you Mrs I. PaineThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Last January I received a ridiculously low estimate of usage for the preceding quarter. Half the norm expected. As the period included the normal price hike I queried the low estimate with Powergen and was told that nothing could be done, the onus was on the user to supply meter readings. The outcome of course is that I have now paid at the higher rate of charge for the shortfall on the estimate for the previous quarter. Powergen made millions on this scam no doubt.
Buyers from Powergen, BEWARE! Get your meter readings in on a regular basis and certainly near as possible to any price hike.0 -
I agree with above poster BEWARE OF POWERGEN.
They will be happy with a constant figure per month and then after 6 months when they decide to send a bill it's 3 times the size of the estimate.
As far as I'm aware (as told by them) there is nothing that can be done as that was the actual usage, far more than it was ever when using BG and far far more than it was using an electricity key.if i had known then what i know now0
