Ebay sellers whats your biggest grumble? I must admit as time goes on I have more and more so thus use Ebay less :( However by far my biggest grumble is an old one

***** or not for dispatch time

Virtually all buyers score this on the amount of time taken for the item to arrive at their front door and not when you dispatched it. Once I hand a parcel over to the the Post office or Parcel force the delivery time is then 100% out of my hands. I revisited Ebay just recently only sold about 15 or so items but got a low star rating for dispatch time from buyer of a Subbuteo set. I posted it the day they ordered but Royal mail took 9 days to deliver. Cheers Ebay, Cheers Royal mail :(

Whats your seller grumble Ebay should fix?

Ebay giving non-payers SO much time to p sellers about.
I've had someone pay me 2 weeks after auction end (auto Ebay non-payer thing opened & no replies to anything from me or Ebay in meantime).
I refunded payment straight away, sent buyer message to say I'd done so and would rather now give the item to charity. That was about 6 weeks ago and I've had no reply or feedback from buyer since. (fingers crossed)
Probably not 'advisable' to have done so but I refuse to deal with buyers that act like this - even at risk of bad feedback to myself. (100% f/back still).
I'm much more of a buyer on Eebs, occasionally sell some of own items, but the seemingly increasing amount of buyers who bid and then ****y about about paying has seriously put me off selling. If I bid, I pay - usually immediately - and if I would like to pay sometime between auction end and 4 days (Ebay limit I think or is it 3?), I message seller to let them know/ask them if that's ok, to save them wondering about payment.
Ebay just encourages bad buyer behaviours really.

Ebay will never go back to negatives for buyers in fact I dont think they will do anything. For BIN's you can set the listing so the buyer has to pay immediately, why dont you use that?

We have done since then - we learnt our lesson! We've also blocked certain bidders (ones with non paying item strikes etc etc)

  • I don't sell much on ebay but the ebayers who annoy me the most are the ones who don't pay until like a week after buying the item or don't pay at all . I also dislike the ebayers who refuse to leave feedback after buying something from me for a right bargain.

How on a scale of 1 to 5, CAN AN AVERAGE OF 4.5 PUT YOUR ACCOUNT AT RISK?

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Especially when the rating comes from an 'unknown and unaccountable' source to which sellers have NO right to reply, even if the rating was left in error, left maliciously or is totally and utterly FALSE.

    I am now calm.:D

Petty indeed! I received an item despatched email the other week shortly after buying (from a large business seller) which I thought was commendably quick, even on a 2 - 3 day estimated delivery. It wasn't actually posted until a whole week later. Did I mark down on comms and despatch time? What do you think?

If it hasn't been sent, don't tell me it has been. If it's going to take a week, don't tell me 2 - 3 days. That's not unreasonable is it?

I do agree though that the stars and gradings are very confusing and need to be changed.
In there is something that annoys me.

If you use Selling Manager Pro and you print off your invoices/packing slips, the only way to note that you have printed them is to mark them as dispatched, that now automatically sends a message to the buyer that they have been dispatched. I was happier when I could manage which emails were sent when. Previously I could print the invoice and send the email that it was being processed and would be sent within the next 24 hours (which is still the case), I can no longer do that.

@Charlie's Mum - unfortunately everyone else in retail lives and dies by buyer opinion - that is not much better than the real world. Damage is done when a company messes up - just look at Hoover and Ratners for major PR disasters which affected the companies' solvency. Nothing changed in what the companies were offering but buyer perception of the two companies plummetted, one on the quality of the items on sale (which until Ratner made his infamous speech they happily lapped up) and one on the failure to hold to their offer.

You can never completely insulate yourself from the opinions of your customers, nor I suspect is it healthy to try to do so. You're not working for eBay - you're working for the people who pay you. You would expect to be appraised by people who employ you, and for part of that appraisal to be subjective.[/QUOTE]

I totally agree that buyers should have the right to rate your performance. What I don't agree with is that they can mark you down even when the evidence proves otherwise.
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • It seems that non paying bidders are a common theme in this thread.
The solution is simple. Make e-bay a Paypal only site unless special agreement has been reached with the seller beforehand. No other form of payment allowed- including e-cheques.
Having done this e-bay should set up automatic payments from the buyers PayPal account the minute the auction ends. Seller gets immediate payment and buyer completes their end of the contract by paying in a timely manner.

Of course special arrangements can be made for collection items, to be arranged with the seller before a buyer bids.

I think that would kill ebay straight away, and we want to attract buyers not deter them.

I often bid well in advance of the auction ending and am perhaps fortunate that I don't have to worry about getting funds in place. However some people buy knowing they are paid the next day, or maybe they need to pay by a different card sometimes to spread costs- we would automatically lose all of those buyers.

No thanks, as a seller I am quite happy to let buyers have control over their own money on auctions- BINs are a different matter as buyers still remain in control and can choose when to hit the 'buy button'.

As a buyer I would not give control of my money to a company like paypal and would only use ebay like this with BIN auctions from registered business sellers
