Sellers biggest ebay grumbles (Things they should fix)

I don't think it's petty to want something you paid for in reasonably good order.
Amazon make sellers post before they release any money, and in any case they make people post within two working days. I'm happy with that as a seller - I don't think from a buyer's point of view having to wait until someone can get round to putting something in the post when they've already handed over the money and it is liquid in a seller's account."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I find the most annoying thing the DSR system. In principle it is a good idea, but it isn't based on facts, it's based on the buyer's opinion.
I have recently been left 3 x 3* for postage and packing charges and I subsidise every time, sometimes by up to £2.50.You're only young once, but you can be immature forever

I often post things 2nd class recorded that I didnt have recorded postage advertised on just beacuse they bid up higher than I was expecting.
If you were to send an item to me recorded delivery without that being stated in the listing then I would be a bit annoyed. Sorry. Its just that I work and will not be home for a recorded delivery that I know nothing about and then having to go through the hassle of arranging a re-delivery (getting someone to stay home) or picking it up. I may sound strange but I would be pretty peev'ed at that hassle. Its fine if I expected it but to not be aware of it would be annoying.Save 8k in 2013: Member #100

I would like to be able to give discounts on an invoice when the items are free post - sometimes if a buyer buys several items I would like to be able to give a discount without faffing around refunding small amounts to their paypal once payment has been made.
Also when a buyer has bought 2 or more items why does my feedback not register? I have to leave it several times - tonight I am trying to leave feedback for a buyer who bought 4 items for me and it's just not happening!0 -

Also, recorded is a waste of money. You don't get any additional compensation over just getting a (free) proof of posting. Recorded post is not tracked, it just goes with standard mail and may (but not always) get a signature when it's delivered.
Ref your first point there is nothing to stop that but then there is no way to exactly know either. This is my point the whole stars for dispatch time is a complete nonsense. Buyers score this section for the delivery time not the dispatch time. Another member mentioned cultivatiing you buyer. Well in my original point I mentioned the guy who bought a subbuteo set. I kept in contact with him all the way through looked up stuff at Royal mail for him and advised on when I would issue a refund and what would happen in that event. He still left me a 1 or 2 for dispatch time when I sent in the day he bought it..0 -
That is abused on Amazon by some sellers too. I ordered an item that was to be personalised and the seller marked it as dispatched before we had even sent the photo in! I queried it with them as I thought they may have sent the wrong item to the wrong buyer and all I got back was a standard email explaining how to submit the photo.Amazon make sellers post before they release any money, and in any case they make people post within two working days. My eBay grumble?
Not being able to pay for my won items (see my thread) as worse case scenario is that I get 6 unpaid strikes from unique sellers , lose my buying account and then also lose all my associated accounts including my business TRS one:(I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. @LIUK

I've never had a problem on Amazon - one item from the US took six weeks to arrive and one Kindle cover vaporised completely. I'm not rigid about dispatch/delivery times, as long as I get it within a week I'm OK, but when selling I will go to the PO twice in one day if I have to to get things out ASAP, and I've taken things to a postbox covered in the Olympic medalwinner stamps I bought for my collection simply to get something out the door on a Saturday evening.
So when I see people complaining about dispatch or buyer expectations I feel annoyed because I bust a gut to get everything out and would only ever sell if I had the free time to do it - but people sit there and think they can get away with posting 'whenever'.
@Charlie's Mum - unfortunately everyone else in retail lives and dies by buyer opinion - that is not much better than the real world. Damage is done when a company messes up - just look at Hoover and Ratners for major PR disasters which affected the companies' solvency. Nothing changed in what the companies were offering but buyer perception of the two companies plummetted, one on the quality of the items on sale (which until Ratner made his infamous speech they happily lapped up) and one on the failure to hold to their offer.
You can never completely insulate yourself from the opinions of your customers, nor I suspect is it healthy to try to do so. You're not working for eBay - you're working for the people who pay you. You would expect to be appraised by people who employ you, and for part of that appraisal to be subjective."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I dont see the thread you refer to?
As a small time seller I seem to attract a lot of attention from ebay
Ive manged to break (but havent broken) quite a few of their rules such as
Vero (But was not in breach of vero)
Multiple listing of same item (2 xbox 360 power supplys with different power cable connections)
Selling a non physical item (A physical item was offered)
Body massager (Plain white plastic people on packaging wearing shorts gym style. Ebay said its a sex toy :rotfl:)
Various others I cant think of right now. The most annoying thing is I give up pleading innocence as Ive rung customer support in the past and corrected them and the operator will say they cant remove your violation. Its a timed process it will only come off when the time expires. So get a wrong violation and you have no chance to get rid of it.0
