Old Style Daily Thread Mon 10th Sept 2012 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 10th September. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all - I couldn't sleep any longer so thought I'd get up and start the daily thread.

I wore myself out yesterday pottering around and was in a fair bit of pain, and finished up with a proper meal. I made the Indian-style mince with potatoes and peas from a recipe I found on here, and it was fabulous. DH was so enthusiastic, it was all I could do to salvage a small portion for myself for lunch today after he'd had a huge second portion. He loves it when I cook from scratch but isn't so great at doing the washing-up! Anything that involves fresh chopped coriander and Greek yoghurt is a hit with us. I also made a Victoria sponge - it was a little flat because I keep forgetting my sandwich tins are 9" and not 7", and an 8884 sponge recipe isn't going to go as far; next time I'll do 10-10-10-5. I used some really cheap vegan marge from the Turkish supermarket, and it's the best sponge I ever made - close to the texture of a bought Madeira cake but with the hard topping of a homebaked cake. The marge was apparently only 20% fat so I wonder if that's what made a difference. My sponges usually have a more coarse open texture. For the filling I used MIL's Somerset jam - she gives us a basket of miscellaneous jams and chutneys every Christmas. I'm trying to wheedle the exact recipe out of her, but I know it involves apples, blackberries, cider, water, lemon juice and sugar.

Got a fairly hectic day ahead - off to the GP to get another sicknote and repeat prescriptions, then up to Harley Street for a bloodtest for my thyroid. I'll have to pace myself because I haven't walked that far alone without company since the operation; I do need to get moving again though to strengthen my muscles. It's amazing how weak they get after only 3 weeks of a non-typical lifestyle. If I have the energy, I might do some window-shopping in John Lewis while I fantasise about a clutter-free clean decorated house. Dinner is going to be something really simple like chops, mash and peas - I'm still getting used to food again and my stomach's been protesting all night.

Today's other tasks when I'm home after the medical stuff - do washing-up, clean up flood in cupboard caused by overfilled sink last night, scrub litter tray, soak showerhead in white vinegar, scrub shower/sink/toilet, wash bathroom and kitchen floor, finish outstanding laundry, put binbags of re-washed clean laundry away, change big bed, cook dinner, do more washing-up and put it away, collapse into bed. Just trying to keep on top of daily kitchen stuff is very tiring and the pain knocked me out yesterday, so I don't have much leeway at the moment for extra stuff like tidying and more cleaning, but I'm going to try and establish a routine. It really winds me up when the kitchen isn't clear because I can't function, and I did big cooking yesterday but didn't have the energy to wash up last night. If there's no routine by the time I go back to work it's going to be a problem because I'm not going to have time or energy for crisis management. I need to find the best stress-free plan. DH might do a bit (once) if I ask him, although I resent having to ask. Anyway, enough of my moaning.

Hope you all have a lovely day :)

Morning all, been awake since half 4 , someones dog was howling :mad:
Never mind, have done a load of washing and popped it on the line and another in the machine.
Not looking to bright out there at the mo but forecast hasn't predicted any rain so fingers crossed.;)

Dishwasher is on the bleeding blink:mad:. Have checked all the filters , spray arms and stuff, topped back up with salt and it is now on a cycle just to see if any of this has sorted out the probs , have a couple of dirty plates and some cups and glasses in that felt very 'gritty' . Hope its sorted now.

Going to see my friends little boy in his first school assembley at 9.30, he has just started at the local special needs school after she finally won the fight to get him there , been going on for the last 5 years. He is also my new godson. So a bit excited there.

Dd has the first of her school sporting fixtures tonight. She has just started her GCSE's sport being one of them , she is so excited as she is sports mad. So most of her evenings are going to be taken up by sports, as long as it doesn't interfer with her other studies it will be fine. If it does she will have to reduce the amount of sport she does, time will tell.

Have swept downstairs, cleaned kitchen and downstairs loo, will hoover upstairs and clean bathroom once they have left for school.

Dinner is Jackets and something, possibly chilli.

Hope all are ok, have happy days:)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Cloudless blue sky, and feeling really warm already! DH up and off to work stupid early. Washing already on the line.

Was quite a chilled day yesterday, made the roasted tomato salad dish to take to mum's, and took other salad leaves, tomatoes and cucumber, and pasta salad. All the food was lovely, although the steak was a bit overcooked for me and DH - we like it medium rare - but on the rare side of medium if that makes sense! We weren't too late home either, so managed to get pack-ups sorted, clean up in kitchen, put DW on, put WM on, get a shower and generally chill in the early evening and evening once everyone else had gone to bed. Spent a little time on pc too.

Today will no doubt be another manic Monday, so will just do the best we can - at least it makes the day go quicker!

Dinner tonight will be gammon, egg, onion sauce, mash and peas - want it to be something quick and easy if work is going to be horrendous - as have been completely shattered the last 2 Mondays/Tuesdays.

Be careful in the sun, remember the suncream x

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

Looks as if it will be a nice day.

Going downstairs to make me and dh some brekkie and do a quick tidy round before workmen arrive.

Have a pile of clean laundry to sort out and dishwasher to unload then will do a quick once over of kitchen as dds arrive back home around lunchtime. Cooked a chicken yesterday which is in the fridge so will do a salad to have with it.

Need to phone hospital later about dd and visit in afternoon as well as tonight and make sure someone is home for builder etc.

Hug to all and see you later.

Forgot to ask - DH has been given a huge marrow and I want to cook it today.
Has anyone any fool proof ways to make the best of it?

    Morning Tiglath and all,

another early riser this morning though i must admit i didnt feel hubby get out of bed at 5.30. I'll be shattered later as he kept me awake most of the night tossing and turning.

Ive started how i mean to go on anyway, my mucky windows are now spotless as i was awake and cleaning them at 7. The downstairs windows arent so bad but i'll go over them anyway.... in a bit. :D

Its raining, the birds are on my lawn searching for earthworms. The little birds eat from the feeders the blackbirds like the worms that come up from wet grass. The wood pigeons are scared of me dogs.:rotfl:

Garden duties can wait for now as its chucking down. Hope it stops raining as ive got a doctors appointment at 5. I need to see if i can organise my medication a little better too.

Other plans for today include washing (tumble dryer day today i'm afraid), vacuuming throughout and ive decided to do spag bolegnese for tea. I want to use up some mince ive had in my freezer for ages. I like to rotate my meat but this mince has been sitting there for a couple of months at least!

Eldest son has done a disappearing act, i guess he is struggling and doesnt want to tell me.

Found out last night that one of my school friends daughters has had to have her leg amputated below the knee. She did a fundraising parachute jump that went wrong ages ago and despite treatment she needed to have her leg amputated. She's only in her 20s. The fundraising was to raise for the hospital that gave her husband a heart transplant 2 years ago.

Ive got a lot to be thankful for. Maybe a lot to worry about but even more to be thankful for.

    Have a great day all.
