Yes I do but don't want to make any song and dance about it. Those for whom this info might be of use will know why
many of these savings accounts accepting deposits by DD require the opening deposit to be via cheque from the linked account.

Many Vantage customers using them purely for savings accounts are unlikely to have multiple cheque books. I know I don't.

Yeah, I haven't got any myself either, good point. But some people might have them, and there are some accounts which definitely allow everything to be done online, without the need for cheques.

Do you know which ones do require cheque?

Tesco doesn't, have just done them

I have 3 cheque books from LTSB, and 3 debit cards as a result of opening up 3 vantage accounts. Basically they are locked away and never been used :D

You could always request one if you don't have a cheque book I'd have thought ;)

That, coupled with the need for 6 DDs, is what I meant earlier in the other thread when I used the word "hassle". ;)

Think they want to reward main current account customers, you have to ask yourself the question. Is it worth the hassle? ;)

Pity HSBC and First Direct don't accept DD's

Should be able to order a cheque book, via the Self-Service form (under "current accounts").
  • If this thread is linked to today's Vantage 4% thread, many of these savings accounts accepting deposits by DD require the opening deposit to be via cheque from the linked account.

For some savings accounts, you could open by a cheque from, and therefore link to, some other account initially, and then change the linked account later. I think AA allowed me to change DD account this way, but ING required a cheque from the new account before they would make the switch.
  • I seem to recall that tesco allow multiple linked accounts to a single savings account. So might be able to set up DD's from multiple vantage accounts from a single savings account. But I might have got that wrong.

In fact, I vaguely recall another provider where different savings accounts could have separate linked accounts. Sorry, I can't remember who that was now, but if someone else can remember, and if they allow as many savings accounts as you want, that would saving having to apply to multiple institutions to get lots of DD links.

While not a savings account, zopa also allows payments by DD. (But I don't think ratesetter do.)

oh and Ge capital direct savings accounts
  • Looks like Santander might allow DD's - can't set it up online but it says you can use telephone banking to request a form to nominate an account. And maybe you can have a different DD per savings account.

Looks like Intelligent Finance allows deposits by DD.
    But Halifax do not.
