According to Warm Front, they won't give anyone a new boiler while the old is still working,no matter how old and manky it is.0

Well, they did ours. It was working, but the thermostat had gone bust and couldn't be replaced - no parts.
It's always worth asking!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

"The Warm Front scheme provides heating and insulation improvements to households on certain income-related benefits living in properties that are poorly insulated and/or do not have a working central heating system.0 -
Thank goodness for that!!
I had visions of everyone over 65 making applications for new boilers etc even if they are working and earning mega bucks!
I didn't know that they did wall insulation etc? Since when? Do you have to be on a means tested benfit to get that as well?
No point working in this country anymore - we might just as well live off benefits and charity and get more!
Actually and rather bizarrely - we got our cavity walls for free despite at the time having a household income of £100K a year.
All because we had a young child!0 -
Wow!!! what a result.
I wonder if it works the same way if someone is disabled or sick?
I doubt it.
I have no idea - Someone from the Council knocked on the door -- did a survey, then we agreed to have it done.
Prices were reasonable (compared with private companies) but they didn't charge as we had a baby at home.
Doesn't make any sense at all does it?
I do *think* can't be sure as it was a while ago, that those with a disability and over 65 also got it free, but can't say 100% that it was the case.0 -

Yes. We couldn't have cavity insulation as our walls are solid but we did have the loft insulation due to my hubby being ill with cancer.
It's always worth asking anyhow.

We've had people 'from the council' offering us free loft insulation, but we'd had ours done a couple of years ago, paid for it ourselves. We did get the new boiler via WarmFront because of being on AA and it has been an absolute godsend. Given the criteria listed by xylophone we shouldn't get it now. AA is non-means-tested. We can't have wall insulation because these are solid brick walls, but this little house is as well-insulated as it can be. Whenever you see heart-rending pics of older people sitting in front of a single-bar electric fire - the most ineffective method of keeping warm ever devised - you realise that a lot should have been/could be done to improve the situation.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We got free cavity wall insulation through eon who supply our gas/electricity and got £100 cash back from them! Warm Front are still saying "no" to a boiler though.0
