Moving to a non-cable area with Virgin Media

Might be moving house to an apartment block which doesnt get VM Cable service so would have to go onto their National Service.
I would have to pay £51.99 fee to change over at the new address, then pay £31.69 a month for ADSL broadband and phone line. I think this is rather expensive for a sub-standard service.
I really would like to cancel but would have to pay over £200 as i am only 6 months into an 18 month contract.
Any ideas on what to do about this? I have Sky tv and would like to get their BB instead but cant afford the fees to do this.

Sky BB unlimited and calls is £7.50/month + line rental, don't see a problem, unless your exchange can't get it.
Check LLU on Samknows. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
VM National is just an overpriced BT Wholesale product, if you move you'll be tied in for another 12m at least. Cut your losses and go with a decent LLU option, if any exist after your samknows search. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I have no problem adding Sky BB to my package, my problem is Virgin Media and the fact i cant get cable, dont want their National Service for 5 quid less than im paying for Cable and i cannot afford over £200 in fees to cancel Virgin.0

Well after an email to Virgin Media they have agreed to end our contract without charge when we move.
Didnt have to try to be honest they just agreed!0 -

Hi Samwich,
I'm having the same problem. If you don't mind me asking what did you say in your email? And where did you send your email? I've been ringing up daily but keep getting extortionate quotes at £41 a month, and £200+ to cancel the contract.0 -
ditto, I'm trying to move and been quoted £120 to finish 4 months early, also learning the hard way about their fees, won't be going back again! So if you could share your email we'd all be grateful0
