Problems with BT

Hi everyone, I've got a problem with BT and am wondering if anyone here (cos you're all so wise) can help me out.

I signed up to BT broadband about 3 months ago, everything was delivered on time and we got started. But then we found the BT hub only worked occasionaly so we spoke to bt and they said it happens, turn it off and on again. This happened often so we decided to leave bt for a company that could provide for us. I spoke to someone at BT, asked about charges and they said (eventualy) that since we were new and having so many problems there'd be a one off charge of £20 to cancel, so I cancelled. I carefully asked when we would get charged to and they said 19th march as that was the date of cancellation. Now they want us to pay ourselves out of the contract (£190). I've spoken to them and told them what I was told and apparently someone from billing will contact us. I said I'm quite prepared to pay what we owe but we were tolds there would be no extra charge?

So what can I do? I don't beleive they'll get billing to sort it out, I'mc onvinced we'll be getting bailifs! What can I do to sort this out quickly?

I don't have regular internet access but if anyone replies to me I'll get back to them as soon as I can.
Thanks for reading :)
