Would I be better with a water meter?

Options
At present we are paying around £40 per month for our water rates, there are 3 adults in the house so 3 showers per day plus the washing machine and dish washer, would we be better off with a water meter or leaving it as it is?

  • hard to say with what you use, however if you go onto your water companys website you may find a calculator to work out if you will save.

Also if you do have one put in and then see its more expensive you have 12 months or 2 bills to have it taken out after that your stuck with it

I have no idea, nor does anyone else, since we don't know the price for metered water in your region (prices vary by 250% or more nationally). But, since you can have it fitted for free and then revert to RV billing at any time within the first 12m, it's a no-brainer to try it and find out.

  • I would say no. Using that amount of water for only £40 per month is very good. Before I recently went onto a meter I was paying £17 a week, in a one bed flat living on my own. Mind you, it doesn't help that I live in Cornwall and we have the highest water rates in the country. I would be delighted if my bill was £40 per month. Even now on a meter I average around £29 a month.

Some water companies allow you to revert back within the first 24 months.

Worth doing an online calculator but I'd say yes, though it depends on your supplier.
We were paying £40 a month and now pay £20 - 2 adults.
