Amazon Kindle - a few qns

I've got an Amazon Kindle but am still unsure about a few aspects of it:

1. Why is it that I can't see the page number of a downloaded book? (I can only see the % rather than the page number)

2. I have flicked through the blog section of the Kindle and a lot of them have a subscription fee of 99p per month. Are these blogs unique to Kindle or can I simply view them for free online? If I can view them for free online, why does Amazon charge for them?

3. Are the magazines through the Kindle created purely for Kindle or (like above) can I get them elsewhere too (free or otherwise)?

4. Why can't I re-orientate the screen from portrait to landscape and vice versa whilst inside a book? I can only seem to re-orientate by going back to the home page first.

Thanks!

    1. it's the way the books are formatted. I have come across a few that have page numbers, but even then it does not show whilst reading the book. (you need to press the menu button)

2 & 3. like most things, if you look hard enough you can find "free" content. the magazines from amazon will probably have equivalent issues for other devices, it is the format that would be different.

    4. depends what version you have. you can with the keyboard version. press the font button (AA.) I will have a look at the new version to check that.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

    I find the % off putting too, gotta work out how many pages = 1% then x 100 to see how long the book is;
I find I,m always looking at it, distracting, don,t know why?
free books easy to download, and plenty via kindle. There are plenty open source shareware available too ;good though.

It's a percentage because the page number will vary depending on your font size selected.

Not sure about newer kindles but mine has line on the home area next to each book (showing how much you've read) but its also a different length depending how long the book is...

also the book description page tells you how many pages the physical book is and I can also view by position ie 3000/10000

Surely the page number isn't important... If I'm reading a paper book I look at what page and how many pages there are to work out how far I am in to the book. Kindle does this for me...

*edit* although, they have started to put them in for things like text books where you might need page references. But remember, depending on the publisher of the book, different paper copies will have different page numbers.

Not having page numbers has not been a problem for me at all.
