I was quite interested in their new adverts showing their many foundation shades as I'm relatively sallow skinned with freckles and every other time I've been 'made-over' its been too orange or too pale. Not sure I'll bother after the comments above! You've all saved me from the 'hard sell'. ;)

  • Unlike most of the comments, the match was perfect for me. The lady at No 7 couldn't have been lovelier. She explained the inside circle was my own colour and the outside ring was the match. I find it hard to believe how it could go wrong. I was cool ivory. I thought to begin with this might be too pale, but no - matches my neck and is the correct colour. A wee bit of blusher is required, but then I chose a medium/full coverage matt foundation. Very happy with the match. :)
  • Just an update, I went back in Boots earlier and tried the tester of the essentially natural foundation in warm beige, that seems to be a fair match for the old one and looks a bit more glowy, probably because the colour is darker than the sample I've got in ivory. They have now brought out about three different shades of beige whereas before there was just one. It would be good if I could stick with No7 as it is cheaper than Clinique, just a pity about those vouchers though.
  • I was just wondering how long it takes to have this done?

Not long at all, they hold the gadget to your skin and it tells them what colour foundation you 'are'. I had mine done a while ago and it came out a shade darker than I was comfortable with, so she gave me samples for that one plus the lighter shade (cool vanilla rings a bell) and I insisted I wanted to check it out in daylight before I would commit to buy. I always do this with make up as the lighting in shops is so bad and I'm paranoid about my make up not looking natural (though I don't wear much). Worth a try, just don't let them talk you into anything, tell them you want to see it in daylight and see how it feels on your skin first, but they should give you a sample in any case x

Absolutely check in the natural daylight before you buy, a colour can look completely different under the shop lighting from in the daylight!
  • I had it done, and it was correct, perhaps a wee bit lighter than I was used to. In fact, it was the right shade, and I have continued buying it. Very happy with it all. Took a minute or two to be done. Very good marketing on Boots' behalf.

PS - just read Dipper's post, and I'm also cool ivory too, and concur with what she said, exactly.

I'm cool ivory too but find it too pale, my hair is now very dark (plum coloured) and pale colours don't seem to look right. I have been told the next shade for me is cool beige but that seems too light aswell so I have got deeply beige which I've had for the past year now. Sometimes I wonder if its too dark but I like some warmth and colour to my skin, it doesn't make me look orange, just gives a nice glow. I also use the No7 tinted moisturiser and find that's easier to match than the foundations, does anyone else find these easier all round?
  • I had a match done at the max factor counter in Boots last year, in the light there is looked okay so I bought the foundation I was given and it looked *horrific* in normal daylight, I ended up giving it away

I wonder if the lighting in there is responsible for giving dodgy results?

I was in SpaceNK earlier this year when they had a By Terry event. I actually nipped in for a free glass of champagne. Main makeup artist came over and ask what I would like to try? I just said foundation. He looked at me and said,"Shade 8." I thought !!!!!!!!!! No way would I be that, I am MAC NC20, so the lighter range of shades. He tried it and it was perfect, he gave me a large decant to take home and try. This guy knew his brand and what was correct, no fancy high tech machine.

In the new By Terry foundation I can wear shades 2, 4 and 7.
