Boots No7 Foundation Match Service - a load of rubbish

Hi, I've had this done twice now and got a different colour match each time, both far too pale for my skin, I know your foundation is supposed to match but there is a limit. I had a make over today at the No7 counter, the assistant put instant radiance foundation in cool ivory on me, I've never worn ivory foundation before, ever, I am dark haired and anything too pale makes me look like a ghost.
She also used a heap of products that I just wouldn't bother with. Face primer, eyeshadow base, concealer, lip liner. I just use foundation or tinted moisturiser, blusher, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick and thats it. I wiped the foundation off after I got out of the shop, I'll be choosing my own shades from now on.

thanks, i havent tried this service yet but i once got matched for a foundation, mine was the opposite though caked in orange!
i also had a max factor makeover at boots, orange face, orange eyelids ad you guessed it...orange lips:eek::rotfl:
i had to buy baby wipes to scrub it off outside as looked like a umpah lumpah with conjuntivitus!:o
i know it says to wear bronze eyeshadow if you have blue eyes but for me it doesnt work, it makes me look insane at best:(***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
Fwiw, the idea they have goundations pale enough for pale skin appeals to me!
I DO want foundation to match my very pale skin and don't find it looks ghostly, it just requires the right blusher and lipcolour etc.0 -
I went, lifted the leaflet where you are suppose to answer questions about what needs you have for a foundation. She ignored this just tested both sides of chin and said the natural one in warm beige.
I have roseaca and need a little more coverage on cheeks, this one said for delicate coverage!!!!! A friend who also has roseaca tried a different Boots explained about it and got a totally different foundation to try. Strangely though her skin tone is deeper than me, she has brown hair, brown eyes and suits olive greens etc, she was matched to an Ivory shade. I am blond, blue eyed we both have warm undertones.
She said the texture and feel of the foundation was crap and threw her one away. I didn't even try it just binned the sample.
Oh I asked about warm and cool tones in the shades? Was told Boots don't do that all foundations are neutral.0 -
Thanks for your replies. I do love No7 but I prefer to choose my own shades now. I totally give up on these so called 'make overs'. The assistants usually ignore what you want. I previously used the essentially natural foundation in Beige and was told it was just the right colour for me which it was, but now they have this device out that measures your colour they seem so determined to tell you different to prove the thing right! Yesterday I was also asked did I want eyeshadow, what colour eyeliner? I said I don't wear eyeshadow and wear black eyeliner so what did I get? I light coloured eyeshadow that showed the creases on my eyelids and brown eyeshadow used as a liner!0

I had been thinking of using that too as after about 13 years of wearing make up I still can't find the perfect foundation! "/
I did however get a makeover at a Benefit counter in Debenhams and it was brilliant! The girl listened to everything I wanted (I was in to get a lesson on eyeshadow for a wedding I'm attending), she put 3 foundation colour samples on my chin and let me choose the one I thought was best. I had only went in for eyeshadow and ended up with a whole new bag of makeup :rotfl:Btw I would thoroughly recommend the 'Hello Flawless' powder coverup! :T0 -
and to top it boots are giving the no7 vouchers but only £3 off this time and not £5 as they used to. this makes paying for their items more expensive than when the prices of few things were higher but they gave a £5 off! eg nail varnish went upto about £7 but with £5voucher=£2. Now nail varnish down to £5.50 each but with £3 voucher=£2.50....................0

I watched someone get matched today as I was waiting to pay in Boots, the customer was bright orange from fake tan and the No 7 girl matched here with a pink tinted medium foundation:rotfl:she's going to look lush ahaaaahaaaaaa:DAll power is from within and therefore under our control0

I tried it once, but they suggested a nice orange tinge for me. Needless to say I didnt go for their choice and bought something elsewhere. Funny thing was the girl who worked on the No7 counter was more orange coloured than a tangerine!0

Its odd because I thought all the sales staff on No 7 looked very very pale with red blusher, like uniform make up, its one extreme to the another. All power is from within and therefore under our control0

Its a fair point about the vouchers, they may have brought some of their prices down but they have reduced the vouchers, like one time you might just want make up and no skin care but you only get £3.00 off now instead of £5.00.
Also they have altered the foundations. I got a sample of the essentially natural in the colour too pale for me but the forumula has changed, it used to be so glowy and now it looks more matte and drying somehow, unless its just me not using the correct moisturiser underneath, I have been a bit lax with my skincare lately I must admit, a quick wipe with a cleansing wipe at night and a splash of water in the mornings with a bit of moisturiser.
I may just stick with Clinique even though it is more expensive, it lasts a long time and it suits me. Either that or just use No7s tinted moisturiser which is the same forumla and you don't have to try hard at matching with colours.
I also notice they have changed some of the lipsticks. The bare shade in the moisture drench has gone. Before the revamp I did buy some of the sheer temptation in Attract, a gorgeous lipstick and shade (on a par with the Clinique nude lippy I use) but the whole thing lasted me two weeks, it melted that quickly and with it being so balmy I kept reapplying it. The No7 adviser said when I had my make over that they have changed the packaging for it so that it will last longer but I am reluctant to buy it again now.0
