My husband has been given a cheque in his name but can't get to the bank. We have a joint account. Can I pay the cheque into our account?

Your husband does not need to visit the bank personally to pay a cheque into his account. Anybody can do it for him.0

Thanks Ben. I just thought I'd double check before I went to the bank. It's been a while since we last had a cheque!0

Make sure you have his sort code and account number because they won't look it up for you.0

Another option is to post it to the bank (with a short note attached detailing account details)Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
It really doenst matter whether it goes into his personal account or y0ur joint account, you can pay it in to either.
It always amazed me with my OH,s business account, i could have taken the whole lot out and left the country but they would nt let me pay a cheque in to his account.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Cheques are only payable to the beneficiary. You can probably pay it in to your joint account but if the cheque is selected randomly for additional checks then it may be returned because the names don't match exactly.0

That's not how joint accounts work. Either (or any) of the holders of a joint account can have cheques drawn in their sole name paid into the account.
It is the reverse which is true - a cheque payable to two people cannot be paid into the account of just one of them.0 -
Nonsense. A cheque payable to either or all parties of a joint account will be accepted without issue..........but if the cheque is selected randomly for additional checks then it may be returned because the names don't match exactly. This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

Wrong.
A cheque payable to an individual can be paid into a joint account as long as he/she is one of the account holders.0 -
Oh dear! I didn't realise my question would cause so much confusion!
I will be going to the bank today so I will let you know the official answer
