car dealers and prices
I'm looking to buy a Renault grand scenic. I've seen the one I want at a price of 10,998 second hand. My question is how willing would a dealer be to knock 2 grand off the price or is that too much? What is the max they are willing to take off? We'll be paying cash so don't need any finance and have a car to part ex.
Thanks:)
Thanks:)

no need to be so rude, I was trying to find out the maximum they will likely knock off. I don't have any experience with haggling for used cars so wanted some genuine advice. oh and the car I'm part exing is no duffer. If you can't be nice then don't bother replying, you're sarcasm isn't needed.0 -
Do your homework and find out if the car you're wanting to buy is competetive on price or not.
you may get one garage knocking off £2000 but the car in question could be £3000 over priced anyway.0 -
Normally with PartX they overvalue your car so make it you got a good deal. You should be able to get 5-10% off.
But how much is your and theirs cars really worth?0 -

Whether you want sarcasm or not, you are going to get it. This is a public forum. Accept that some people are not going to be all lovey dovey but will still make a salient point.
You may not have much experience in car buying but you don't need to be Charman of British Airways to work out that you won't get £2k off a £11k car from a second hand car dealer.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
If you are part exchanging a car for the newer one then its not just the discount on the Scenic that you have to consider, its the overall price to change
When negotiating you need to focus on getting the best price for your part-ex (make sure its clean, tidy and you have all the info) as well as the lowest price for the scenic
Some garages appear to have higher prices on the cars they are selling but this is cancelled out with slightly higher part-ex offers. Also, don't get too worried about the discount if the car is very cheap, better to get £100 discount on a £10k car than £1k discount on an identical car listed at £12k.
Finally, trust your instincts. If you don't know, trust or been recommended the garage, then walk away if you are not 100% happy with the deal or garage0 -
Have you got a Motorpoint near you?

They will give you less for your car (They run their own trade auction site for trade-ins and also ship them out to BCA etc) but their prices are lower to start with.
Most of their cars are ex-hire or fleet cars (but then where do you think most of the 6 month-2 year year old second hand cars come from anyway???) ,but you get the manufacturer's warranty.
Price To Change is the key.
They don't haggle much - you might be able to raise their first part-ex price a little, but not much.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
If you don't know the value of the new car then how do you know what is a good deal. You need to do your homework.0
