MOT Advisory - Big job?
Options
I'm buying a car next week and as part of it he agreed to have a new MOT on it.
Its passed but had 3 advisory's
Nearside Front worn on inner edge Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Offside Front worn on inner edge Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)
Offside front inner drive shaft boot small split
Now with the tyres i understand the legal limit is 1.6mm but is that also the MOT limit. Could they be 1.7mm and pass?
And is the drive shaft boot a big job?
Edit - Sorry for a Mondeo
Thanks

id be more concerned with the uneven wear in the tyres,cv boot is not a big job parse its just a time consumer.0

The uneven tyre wear suggests the tracking needs adjusted, add on the cost of 2 new tyres and replace the boot and you should be looking at £250 off the price.0

Thanks, already got some off the price and he would have knocked more off but we compromised on him getting the MOT and sorting anything out if failed.
As its passed with nothing he won that, but could have easily needed £100's of work done.0 -
Inner edge of tyre wear indicates towing in so definitely needs tracking. Tyres will pass at 1.7mm as legal fail depth is 1.6mm, that's why they are on the advisory. When I carried out MOT tests if a CV boot had any damage or split it was a failure not an advisory, check online on the VOSA MOT testers manual web site.0

can be worn but if the split is not allway through and not letting out its grease packing then it should be advisory.0 -
The car does not have a towbar, or had one. So not from towing.0

He means toe-in and toe-out not tow.0

There's a good possibility that the tyres have worn unevenly due to component wear and not just mal-adjustment. I'd factor in the possible cost of new track rod end ball joints or lower arms/bushes.
These parts aren't massively expensive though (£15 odd for a track rod end, £50 for a wishbone if the bushes can't be sought separately, pence for bushes if they can be); nor do they take a lot of labour to replace.0 -
