My stolen car keys results in charge notice from High View Parking LTD

Hi All
Looks like it is safe to ignore this but I am after a bit of advice and reassurance please..
Recently I had my car keys stolen whilst at the gym, as a result I was stuck with my car in a car park for almost 9 hours. Due to the bank holiday weekend it was difficult to find a company that were able to send somebody out to me. I reported this incident to the police at the time and was given a crime reference number.
My friend went home briefly but came back 20 mins later and stayed with me for several hours to help and to give me company.
Anyway I finally had another set of keys made for £230 that night and assumed this was the end of it.
However, yesterday I received a 'charge notice' from Highview Parking LTD. My questions are:
- Should I send a letter refusing to pay and provide details of my crime reference number as proof in the hope they cancel it or should I not bother replying at all?
- My friend also received a charge notice and I want to send a letter on their behalf stating they stayed behind to help me - should I?
Thank you guys

I think it is safe to just ignore any demands for payment.
In the "very very "unlikely event that they do try it on in court then think about your " evidence".
I doubt very much that this is going anywhere near a court though.0 -
No.
No.
Use the letters to keep the fire going or for those awkward times the toilet roll runs out or use it for lining the guinea pig cage or when fixing the car to put dirty/used car parts on or anything really that doesn't involve any effort or time on your part.0 -
highview parking can be safely ignored completely, they are not on the list of companies that even went to the small claims last year (I believe), despite their threats to do so. this is verified by an FOI request to the courts.
and here's the proof of that

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Send these links to your friend, make sure he doesn't pay or appeal either:

As long as neither car is a company or hire/lease car then the letters will come to you (the registered keepers) and can be safely ignored. Just play snap with each letter against the letter-chains thread linked. Nothing else will happen, no effect on your credit ratings as it's a scam attempt and only like ignoring phishing emails. Make sure both households know the score so no-one panics about the debt collector letter-chain.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Many thanks for the speedy response guys - very helpful.
I was contemplating writing a letter explaining and with my crime reference number, hope it would get cancelled and not have to worry about any further threatening letters.
But I will NOT respond to them at all now - and neither will my friend.
Any ideas how long the follow up letters go on for before they are likely to just give up?
Should now be able to enjoy my Saturday in the sun thanks to you guys!

You will get 5 or 6 letters demanding payment, with outlandish legal claims on the letters, they are all hot air as they have no legal right to issue proceedings against you. Don't appeal or communicate with them in any way, they will get your details from the dvla and there will be a debt collector with no real powers writing to you. If you ignore it all you'll get a 100% discount on it.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors.
